Job Description
REMOTE

Are you interested in working for a company named by Fast Company as “World Changing Company of the Year” and “Best Workplaces for Innovators” and named #1 in Forbes 2022 World’s Most Admired Companies List.

We are Siemens, we create technology with purpose adding real value for customers. By combining the real and the digital worlds, we empower our customers to transform their industries and markets, helping them to transform the everyday for billions of people.
The commodity manager will directly manage approximately $45 million volume in critical project specific 3rd party products. These commodities currently have supply strategies and a supply base of stable suppliers which are industry leaders. Commodities include commercial building automation (HVAC) devices, flow and power meters, distribution, IoT and IT Hardware and Software. Therefore, HVAC and IT knowledge and experience will be highly valuable. Identification of frequent use products which will be supplied for the majority of projects is a critical requirement; but, since this is a project-based business, there is a need to quickly identify one-time or niche products to meet project requirements. You will manage the supplier relationships as well as negotiate supply agreements and annual pricing with suppliers. You will create development agreements to improve on-time delivery, quality and carbon reduction.
The decentralized project procurement activities will depend on collaboration with the portfolio/product management team and jointly determine preferred material and convince estimators and engineers to use the standard material. The commodity management department utilizes robust processes but requires critical thinking and analytic ability to develop innovative ways to achieve savings, drive digitalization, and implement sustainability (carbon reduction) in the supply base. The commodity management team does not create purchase orders but does approve large dollar orders in SAP.
This role is part of the commodity management team for the Regional Solutions & Service Business Unit in the Americas and consists of six commodity managers with purchase volume of >$700 million in various direct materials categories relating to building automation, comfort, and safety. The commodity manager reports to the director of commodity management who reports to the vice president of procurement. This organization allows for the commodity manager to collaborate with a very professional and diverse team, take advantage of state-of-the-art tools, and contribute to the innovation of the entire procurement department.
The successful candidate will have a digital mindset, be innovative, collaborative, and curious. The following experience is highly valued: Dashboards, AI/machine learning, robotic process automation project or program management, blockchain, sustainability, cybersecurity.
While this position is challenging there are significant benefits including a competitive salary, flex-time off (unlimited) and opportunity to grow in a World Class organization with potential for advancement in any of the other Siemens business units in the US and other countries.

Requirements of the position are:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;

3+ years of procurement experience in commodity management or strategic sourcing; including developing commodity strategies, writing and negotiating contracts, drive programmatic savings; supplier relationship management; skills in Microsoft products including Excel

Preferred skills

General knowledge of building automation controls and devices; mechanical engineer is highly preferred;

General knowledge of IT Hardware/Software and IoT devices;

Knowledge of SAP, QlikSense or other digitalization tools
