The Deseret News seeks an experienced digital sports journalist to cover the University of Utah athletic program and the Pac-12 conference. This sports reporter will source and create daily stories that bring quality content to digital audiences in the West and Utah, driving traffic and interaction with Deseret.com and the Deseret News app.

This job will challenge you to ...

• Be consistently engaged on social media, interacting with Utah and Pac-12 influencers and fans.
• Seek new ways to engage digital readers through headlines, narratives and data.
• Compete and break through in an active sports media market.
• Interact with Utah players and coaches, and Pac-12 sources, to break news and write in-depth stories.
• Build trust with a passionate fanbase and meet its appetite for news and analysis.
• Drive traffic and engagement to Deseret.com, its app and associated social channels.

You're a good fit if you are ...

• Able to build stories throughout a news cycle, developing them from breaking news briefs to in-depth perspective pieces.
• Familiar with SEO best practices and how to find trending news.
• Resourceful in giving context to and providing analysis for breaking news.

You're an even better fit if you ...

• Hold a degree in journalism or media studies.
• Have 2+ years of experience working in a college athletics environment.
• Have 2+ years of years of experience working in a newsroom.
• Can write killer longform features while covering the beat like a blanket.
