Job Title: College Counselor Part-time or Full-time (IB School Experience) - La Scuola d’Italia
Location: Manhattan, New York
La Scuola d’Italia, a prestigious international school located in Manhattan, is seeking a qualified and experienced College Counselor to join our dynamic team. As a college counselor at La Scuola d’Italia, you will play a crucial role in guiding our students through the college application process and helping them achieve their academic and career goals. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience working specifically with International Baccalaureate (IB) schools and a deep understanding of the college admissions landscape.
Responsibilities:
College Admissions Guidance: Provide comprehensive college counseling to students, assisting them with selecting appropriate colleges and universities based on their interests, strengths, and aspirations.
Individual Student Support: Work closely with students to develop personalized academic plans, evaluate their transcripts, and advise on course selection and extracurricular activities to enhance their college prospects.
Application Assistance: Guide students through the entire college application process, including essay writing, resume building, and interview preparation, ensuring their applications are compelling and competitive.
College Fairs and Workshops: Organize and conduct college fairs, information sessions, and workshops to educate students and parents about various college options, financial aid, scholarships, and other relevant topics.
Relationship Building: Establish and maintain strong relationships with college admissions officers, attending conferences and networking events to stay updated on admissions requirements and trends.
Scholarship and Financial Aid Support: Assist students in exploring scholarship and financial aid opportunities, providing guidance on application procedures and deadlines.
Data Management: Maintain accurate and confidential records of student information, college applications, and admission outcomes, utilizing appropriate software and tools.
Collaboration: Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and parents to ensure students receive comprehensive support, addressing their academic and emotional needs during the college preparation process.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
Minimum of 3 years of experience in college counseling, preferably in an IB school setting.
IB School Experience:
In-depth knowledge of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, assessment, and college admissions process.
Familiarity with the unique challenges and opportunities faced by IB students in the college application process.
Counseling Skills:
Proven ability to guide students through the college admissions process, providing personalized support and advice.
Strong understanding of career exploration, college major selection, and academic planning.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to establish rapport with students, parents, and college admissions officers.
Strong presentation and public speaking skills for conducting workshops and information sessions.
Technological Proficiency:
Proficient in using relevant software and tools for data management, college research, and application submission.
Familiarity with online resources and platforms related to college admissions.
Organizational and Time Management Skills:
Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines effectively.
Detail-oriented with strong administrative skills.
