Why does the job exist?

The purpose of the position is to plan, direct, evaluate, coordinate, and provide oversight for college and career readiness (CCR) programs and initiatives.

How does it get done?

Key responsibilities include promoting the work of the Bureau as well as oversight for specific, assigned programs. All coaches provide:
  • Technical assistance for all assigned responsibilities that allows participants to effectively manage requirements
  • Leadership to stakeholders (including schools/districts, community organizations, and other educational entities) that drives College & Career Readiness best practices in all bureau initiatives
  • Support for career technical education that enables stakeholders to offer high-quality programs, which may include advisement and/or grant management such as approving budgets, requests for
reimbursements, site monitoring, and data collection
All coaches are expected to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on multiple initiatives. All work must align to the vision and mission of the College and Career Readiness Bureau, as well as the New Mexico Public Education Department's Strategic Plan.

Who are the customers?

Students, school districts, community organizations, other educational entities, and industry partners.

Ideal Candidate

Experience managing several programs, budgets, or courses concurrently.
Experience as an instructor, advisor, counselor and/or administrator at the secondary or post-secondary level.
Providing training and coaching to adults.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.

Working Conditions

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
