Job Description
A Collections Specialist is responsible for monitoring and maintaining accounts receivable balances, ensuring timely collection of outstanding debts, and managing customer relationships. The job involves dealing with customers who have overdue payments and ensuring that they are contacted and reminded to pay their debts.
Duties and responsibilities
  • Responding to customer inquiries and resolving disputes related to billing and payments.
  • Contacting customers who have overdue balances to remind them to pay their debts and negotiating payment plans if necessary.
  • Preparing reports and providing updates to management on collections performance.
  • Managing a portfolio of accounts, reviewing account balances and identifying overdue accounts.
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure accuracy of billing information and resolving discrepancies.
  • Keeping accurate records of customer interactions and transactions in the company's database.
  • Following up with customers to ensure payments are received and resolving any issues that arise.
  • Analyzing data to identify trends in payment behavior and providing recommendations to improve collections processes.
Requirements
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
  • Familiarity with laws related to debt collection (e.g. FDCPA)
  • Excellent prioritization and organization skills: ability to plan and organize work efficiently and effectively
  • Experience in large ERP accounting software (Netsuite plus)
  • High school diploma; Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree is a plus
  • Previous experience as a Collections Specialist or similar role
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills
