Collins Aerospace in Jacksonville FL has an immediate opening for a CNC Machine Operator II.

This individual will be responsible for tooling setup and machining new parts by executing programs and operating a variety of computer numerical control (CNC) or manual machines (3 axis and 5 axis CNC).

This person will liaise with other operators and departments where appropriate to ensure the Machining section meets the required demands and reports directly to the Machining Supervisor.

This position is located on Blount Island and will requires some travel between our 2 Jacksonville locations, Busch Drive location and Blount Island on an as needed basis.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Participate in EHS risk reduction activities.
  • Maintain proper condition of measuring instruments.
  • Participate in all team stand-ups and uses safe ergonomic practices in performing job.
  • Achieve required part cosmetics with manual operations.
  • Meet and sustain Certified Operator requirements.
  • Communicate with co-workers and supervisor to coordinate activities.
  • Cross-train on different types of machining centers.
  • Set-up and Operate multiple CNC Machine Centers.
  • The machining of complex fiberglass and CFRP products.
  • Maintain proper documentation of executed operations.
  • Maintain proper cutting conditions on machining centers.
  • Adhere to all Collins rules and codes of conduct.
  • Maintain a clean and hazard free work cell.
  • Look for ways to eliminate safety hazards and improve the overall safety of the workplace.
  • Check parts using specified gages or check parts using furnished fixtures to see that dimensions are being maintained.
  • Provide continuous improvement ideas to support lean and CORE initiatives.
  • Meet or exceed Machine Shop FPY requirements.
  • Support and manage the machine tooling to best achieve drawing tolerances, including offset adjustments and tool wear identification.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks, reporting improper machine function and/or check parts not being held to the proper dimensions.
  • Support CORE and 5S housekeeping practices.
  • Maintain a teamworking mindset.
  • May perform other job duties as required and available for overtime as necessary.
  • Meet or exceed required output hours.
  • Identify opportunities for program and work-holding improvements.

Basic Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements.
  • HS diploma or GED and a minimum of 2 years of relevant machining experience. In the absence of a HS diploma or GED, 4 years of relevant machining experience is required.
  • Must be able to work in a standing position up to 8 hours per day
  • Must be willing to obtain certification to operate a powered industrial vehicle
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior aerospace / marine industry experience is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience utilizing various measuring/inspection techniques.

Working Environment:

  • Daily exposure to dust particulates.
  • Climate Controlled environment.
  • Work assignments require moderate to strenuous effort.
  • Will frequently lift parts and equipment that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds).
  • Occasionally, may lift and carry items that weigh up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers, if required.
  • Workers must climb, bend, stoop, crawl, and stand for prolonged periods on concrete or metal surfaces.
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals, wearing a respirator when required.
