Position Summary:

The Clinical Trauma Coordinator managesday-to-day responsibility for process and PI activities as they relate to care of trauma patientsand serves as a liaison to administration and EMS. The Clinical Trauma Coordinator represents the trauma program on hospital and regional committees, develops and implement clinical protocols, practice management guidelines, policies, and procedures, provides educational opportunities for staff development and orientation. The Coordinator has oversight of the trauma program, trauma registry, injury prevention program, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure quality trauma care throughout the lifespan. Assisting with budgetary process, acquiring, and maintaining appropriate supplies and equipment as well as quality and performance improvement efforts in the Emergency Department are required.

The Clinical Trauma Coordinator is responsible for the development and coordination of emergency services which meet the diverse needs of emergency patients, with a focus on high-risk populations. High-risk populations include, but are not limited to the following classifications: trauma, neurological/stroke, cardiac, pediatric, geriatric, addictions and those with complex medical problems. The Clinical Trauma Coordinator is accountable to the Director of Emergency Services, but works collaboratively with state and local EMS and law enforcement agencies, regulatory bodies, physicians, hospital staff and administration. The coordinator requires knowledge and skill in trauma systems care, principles of adult teaching and learning, quality and performance improvement management, effective and diverse communication techniques, proficiency with project management/time management, as well as public speaking/presentations.This individual must support of the objectives of the Trauma Program as well as the various other high-risk population-specific programs as listed above.

Position Requirements:

  • Hold current membership in a national or regional trauma organization
  • AAAM’s Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) course
  • Licensed RN with Bachelors’ degree preferred
  • ED/Trauma/Critical Care experience (2 years minimum)
  • Trauma registry course that includes – Abstraction – Data management – Reports/report analysis – Data validation – HIPAA
  • 12 hours of trauma-related continuing education annually and all organizational mandatory education
  • Monday-Friday with evening or weekends as needed to meet Trauma Program requirements or to meet departmental needs
  • ICD-10 course or an ICD-10 refresher course every five years
