Job Description
Overview
Primary duty is to act as a liaison with Care Centers and Suppliers in coordination of purchases within medical supply and durable medical equipment formularies. Researches and evaluates requests for non-formulary supplies to include cross-reference potential, cost effectiveness and quality. Responds to calls and other inquiries from Care Centers and Suppliers regarding medical supplies and hospice durable medical equipment.
Responsibilities
1. Maintains medical supply and durable medical equipment formulary and standardization within established metric measurement. 2. Evaluates all non-formulary supply requests for approval. Maintains an accurate database of requests. 3. Performs cross-reference of non-formulary supply requests to formulary equivalent or standardized non-formulary equivalent. 4. Evaluates supply back-orders and care impact, initiates expedited shipment or substitution to meet Care Center needs. 5. Negotiates pricing with Suppliers to achieve lowest purchase price with best quality and service. 6. Responds to calls and other inquiries from Care Centers and Suppliers regarding medical supplies and durable medical equipment, and works to resolve issues or disparities as they arise. 7. Performs thorough evaluation of all product concerns to ensure provision of quality supplies. 8. Communicates policies and procedures regarding medical supplies, durable medical equipment, consolidated billing and reimbursement criteria, and other related matters. 9. Attends and actively participates in staff meetings. 10. Prepares accurate compiling of information for distribution such as reports, memos, business letters etc. 11. Monitors purchase history to identify utilization trends. Performs ongoing evaluation of utilization. 12. Maintains automated and manual systems related to medical supplies and durable medical equipment. 13. Acts as liaison between care centers and non-Medicare vendors to facilitate ordering of medical supplies. 14. Performs other duties as assigned. Lead Clinical Supply Analyst - Duties in addition to those listed above. 15. Provides coaching and training to other employees. 16. Collaborates with the Clinical Supply Manager in formulary development and refinement. 17. Performs analysis of medical supply purchases and utilization using Microsoft Office applications. 18. Collaborates with the Clinical Supply Manager to identify process improvements and medical supply consolidation opportunities. 19. Performs FDA research, maintains data base and evaluates quality of products and supplies. Encourages and receives evaluations and recommendations regarding medical supplies from other clinicians and staff members. 20. Performs Supplier management in provision of agency educational offerings, including inservices and web-based training. Senior Clinical Supply Analyst - Duties in addition to those listed above. 21. Performs complex analysis of medical supply purchases and utilization using Microsoft Office applications. 22. Performs complex analysis and management of the non-formulary request process with identification of trends to enable efficient category management. 23. Identifies and implements efficiencies in medical supply process management. 24. Performs complex analysis and management of the FDA research/notification process to develop short and long term management strategies.
Qualifications
Current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse or License Practical Nurse preferred with training in extended or long term care setting, procurement, distribution and/or inventory control or relevant work experience.
Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) documents the following: The mutual recognition model of nurse licensure allows a nurse to have one license (in his or her state of residency) and to practice in other states (both physical and electronic), subject to each state's practice law and regulation. Nurses must legally reside in a NLC state to be eligible to have a multi-state license.
Ability to evaluate clinical and cost effectiveness and quality of various products and supplies.
Medical supply or durable medical equipment experience preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrates courtesy and tact when dealing with vendors.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of customer service skills when responding to questions and other inquiries from internal and external customers.
Strong computer and software skills to include word-processing, spreadsheet, and database skills.
Medical terminology required. Lead Clinical Supply Analyst - Qualifications in addition to those listed above.
Two (2) years medical supply experience. Senior Clinical Supply Analyst - Qualifications in addition to those listed above.
Four (4) years medical supply experience.
Demonstrated expertise in analysis using Microsoft Office applications.
