Description

The Biostatistician works closely with the CRC Leadership and supports all phases of the UH Departments research enterprise to ensure scientifically valid research is conducted and that valid conclusions may be drawn.

  • The Biostatistician interacts with trainees of all levels, faculty and staff. Knowledge of clinical research preferred.
  • Will support the research efforts of Faculty and surgical trainees in a prolific academic Department of Surgery that culminate in approximately 250 publications per year
  • Participate in the academic offering in educating surgical residents, fellows, interns, and medical students in biostatistics analysis.
Qualifications

  • Applications include SAS, SPSS, and Stata
  • Able to navigate and retrieve data and analysis from large databases (NIS, HM, Premier)
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Masters preferred, greater than (5) years of experience in biostatistics analysis preferred

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of statistical concepts and methodologies, and keep informed on current statistical concepts, methods, techniques and technology.
  • Have a strong knowledge of at least one sophisticated statistical software package, such as SPSS, R, or other open-source software, including graphical presentation and advanced statistical techniques (Bayesian, hierarchical linear modeling, survival analysis, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to present complex information in an accessible format.
  • Demonstrates initiative to learn new skills and techniques.
  • Have a working knowledge of one or more relational database packages, such as RedCap, Access, etc.
  • Ability to delegate tasks to lower-level biostatisticians and assist higher-level biostatisticians when necessary
  • Have a strong knowledge of basic Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Special Skills & Equipment Knowledge:

    • Demonstrate a strong understanding of statistical concepts and methodologies, and keep informed on current statistical concepts, methods, techniques and technology.
