Job Summary


The Research Assistant will work primarily on a project that will examine biological and behavioral markers associated with social functioning in children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and with no developmental concerns. The project will use eye tracking, electrophysiology, behavioral, clinical, and parent report measures with a group of children who are participating at multiple time points. Responsibilities will include recruiting and scheduling participants, running experimental study sessions, administering eye tracking and EEG measures, behaviorally assisting children during visits, coordinating collection of surveys from parents, and data entry and management. This project is a longitudinal study that requires a high level of data integrity. The research assistant may also be responsible for coordinating and training research interns. Finally, the research assistant will contribute to data processing, scoring, and cleaning and will have the opportunity to assist with analysis.

The Faja Lab conducts clinical neuroscience research focused on autism spectrum disorders in the Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience (LCN). The LCN is dedicated to furthering our understanding of brain and cognitive development in children diagnosed with or at risk for various neurodevelopmental disorders. Our multidisciplinary team of researchers brings together experts from a wide range of fields, including neuroscience, psychology, and education in collaboration with clinical experts in fields such as developmental pediatrics and child neurology.

Requirements:

  • Computer skills including working knowledge of PC and Mac operating systems
  • A 2-year commitment to the position
  • Previous professional experience with children, including at least one year of experience (paid or unpaid) working in a research setting
  • Availability for flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends to facilitate visits with families with a variety of work and school schedules
  • A bachelor’s degree in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, or related field (feel free to inquire)
  • High level of motivation; ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team; excellent communication skills, problem solving abilities, organization, and attention to detail

Preferred experience includes:

  • Experience with administering and scoring standardized developmental measures
  • Written communication skills necessary to assist with grant preparation, publications, presentations and/or applications to an Institutional Review Board
  • Previous professional experience with autism spectrum disorder
  • Knowledge of psychophysiological/electrophysiological recording
  • Knowledge of statistical and basic experimental presentation and collection software
