Summary:


The Clinical Quality Coordinator (CQC) RN works in collaboration with a broad group of stakeholders (nursing and medical directors, frontline clinical staff from all disciplines, Center for Quality & Safety, Clinical Informatics, Patient-Family Experience, Process Improvement, Data Analytics and Reporting, Information Management, Clinical & Organizational Development) to support continuous quality improvement at micro, meso, and macrosystem levels. The Clinical Quality Coordinator RN shares responsibility for providing facilitation, coordination services, consultation and management of various quality improvement and safety activities from designated microsystems to projects that are large-scale and across the medical center. This position reports to the Senior Director of Nursing Excellence and works in close collaboration with their respective unit Director. The responsibilities of the CQC RN may expand beyond a single department, advancing to the service lines to which the department belongs. This position provides leadership as a member of the Triad/Quad team and support for the advancement of high reliability practices and provides leadership in the department to guide operational processes and analysis methods. The CQC RN fosters improvements and care through quality improvement, safety, evidence informed practice and utilization of electronic health records and analytics. The CQC RN is an expert in use of formal quality improvement methodologies and technologies to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of care delivery processes and outcomes, and the use of data to drive improvements.


Essential Job Functions:


  • Serves as safety event liaison. Ensures investigation of safety events and indicated follow-up performed. Maintains safety reporting data for presentation to local and organizational leadership.
  • Collaborates in benchmarking, evidence review and synthesis, manual observations, chart reviews and sustainability efforts of quality improvement projects.
  • Ability to lead and facilitate quality improvement projects across levels of the organization with a focus on micro and mesosystem levels with some macrosystem level projects.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Conducts literature searches of the subject matter both independently and in collaboration with the key clinical stakeholders to foster evidence-informed practice when applicable.
  • Develops and validates tools for the collection of data.
  • Contributes to the promotion of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital and the field of quality improvement by spearheading submissions for presentation and publication.
  • Manages oversight for the local improvement project’s maintenance, which includes ongoing data analysis/sharing. Lead discussions with content and data experts to identify appropriate metrics and guide improvement work that impacts quality, safety, and compliance data. Works with those experts to create data visuals and ensure ongoing data monitoring.
  • Maintains bedside nursing skills and credibility with staff to allow for direct evaluation of the practical impact of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for aiding in prioritization of current and future quality improvement initiatives by analyzing internal data and external comparative data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement in clinical care. Partners to align all initiatives with organizational and departmental goals and priorities and maintain regulatory standards.
  • Serves as a quality improvement mentor by supporting departmental and clinical leadership and staff in developing knowledge on quality improvement frameworks and the integration of quality improvement methodology into project work.
  • Collaborates with clinical informatics and the data analytics team, using available informatics tools and reports / dashboards to monitor quality improvement. Monitors metrics and ensures feedback is routinely shared with clinical stakeholders.
  • Perform job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Has extensive knowledge of the principles of high reliability organizing and actively applies those principles in all work striving to achieve zero harm. Partners with local leadership team to facilitate local safety coach program, routine interdisciplinary safety rounds, and complete indicated follow-up.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Formal quality improvement training preferred.
  • Proficiency with the Standards for Quality Improvement Reporting Excellent (SQUIRE) framework and contribution of new knowledge to the field of Quality Improvement.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects with general supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and PowerBI. Preferred proficiency with Epic.
  • Understanding of data management including interpreting, comprehending, and summarizing statistical and medical data.
  • Project management and collaboration skills required.
  • Demonstrated experience with literature searches and synthesis of evidence.
  • ANCC recognized certification and quality, or safety related professional certification from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Strong written, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in presenting, communicating, and interacting effectively with staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Survey design skills preferred.
  • Registered RN licensed in the state of Illinois required. Minimum 2 years of clinical, coordinator or experience in related field.
