Alaska Marine Lines is looking for a well-organized, motivated individual to take responsibility for ensuring compliance with AML’s claims policies, tariffs, and terms/conditions. This person will assist in updating, developing, and writing company specific programs, JSA’s, departmental manuals, and newsletters.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Investigate claims by reviewing shipment history, contacting carriers, claimant and other documentation to determine the facts of the claim and the extent of AML’s liability.
  • Produce monthly Newsletter to include HSSE topics and Cargo Claims information.
  • Attend seminars and Claims/HSSE related courses as needed.
  • Assist in writing and updating policy and procedural manuals for AML.
  • Work in conjunction with departmental personnel and Seattle Training Manager to develop AML specific training materials/resources, as well as developing and utilizing video content.
  • Manage subrogation correspondence/recoveries and facilitate salvage or disposal of cargo.
  • Coordinate services of Marine Surveyors when necessary
  • Initiate cargo claims investigation, process claims and assist in mitigation efforts and implementing procedures to minimize future occurrence.
  • Assist with compliance of DOT, EPA, OSHA, USCG regulations and other federal, state and local requirements as required.
  • Communicate with attorneys during litigation processes
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Able to quickly learn new systems, processes and procedures. Employee must have PC and software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.) knowledge and experience and have the ability to use a variety of machines such as copiers, scanners, telephones, etc. Employee must be able to type 35wmp and operate 10 key by touch. Employee must be flexible to work alone or as part of a team under pressure of deadlines or business volume increases. Proactive self-starter who demonstrates common sense and ability to function productively within a fast-paced, multi-task work environment. Must possess excellent organizational and time management skills. Some travel may be needed.
A post conditional offer of employment drug test, and background screen are required. Physical required for certain positions. Random drug testing is required of all Alaska Marine Lines employees.
