Duties

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Occasionally may be in charge of unit training and handle some management tasks upon delegation (Technical Specialist/Senior Technical Specialist level)
  • Serve as an informal leader/lead with some supervisory responsibilities such as adjuster follow-up, coaching, mentoring and development (Technical Specialist/Senior Technical Specialist level)
  • Able to read and interpret personal and commercial lines of insurance policies
  • Proficient in handling complex cases, prioritizing work and manage pending (Technical Specialist/Senior Technical Specialist level)
  • Interview customers, claimants, and witnesses to obtain claim information
  • Properly document the extent of damage and prepare a computer generated scope and estimate of repair (adjuster level)
  • Adjust 1st party property claims according to department attributes and guidelines on claims adjusting fundamentals while providing excellent customer service
  • May work with various experts such as accountants, architects, engineers, lawyers and investigators from various branches of the government in order to properly adjust a loss
  • Manage workload while working in the field. This may include assignment of a claims territory on a Neighbor Island requiring flying to handle claims (adjuster level)

Special Circumstances:

  • May require periodic overtime and weekend work
  • For field positions, neighbor Island travel may be required on short notice

Qualifications

Qualifications / Experience:

Claims Trainee:

  • Possess Hawaii Driver's License with clean abstract
  • Ability to handle stress and manage oneself in a professional manner
  • 4 year college degree or equivalent claims/insurance experience
  • Excellent organization skills in order to juggle multiple priorities and assignments
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, and Internet applications
  • Ability to work well with others and independently
  • Solid relationship building and interpersonal skills necessary to service internal/external customers
  • Good critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Adjuster I: (all Claims Trainee requirements plus the following):

  • Minimum 6 months of claims or work related to claims experience
  • Basic knowledge of Xactimate
  • Knowledge of policy forms, theories of coverage, claim handling guidelines

Adjuster II: (all requirements above plus the following):

  • Intermediate knowledge of Xactimate
  • Full understanding of policy forms, theories of coverage, claim handling guidelines
  • Minimum 2 years of claims experience, partially in Property

Adjuster III: (all requirements above plus the following):

  • Minimum 3 years of claims experience partially in Property
  • Intermediate knowledge of Xactimate

Adjuster IV: (all requirements above plus the following):

  • Advanced knowledge of Xactimate
  • Must be able to obtain Haag Certification
  • Minimum 4 years claims experience partially in Property

Senior Adjuster I: (all requirements above plus the following):

  • Must be able to obtain Haag Certification
  • Minimum 5 years claims experience in Property
  • Advanced proficiency using Xactimate

Senior Adjuster II: (all requirements above plus the following):

  • Must be able to obtain Haag Certification
  • Advanced proficiency using Xactimate
  • Minimum 7 years claims experience in Property

Technical Specialist: (all requirements above plus the following):

  • Experienced in handling complex claims with minimum supervision
  • Advanced proficiency using Xactimate
  • Minimum 10 years claims experience in Property
  • Must be able to obtain Haag Certification
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Senior Technical Specialist: (all requirements above plus the following):

  • Advanced proficiency using Xactimate
  • Experienced in handling complex claims with minimum supervision
  • Minimum 12 years claims experience in Property
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to obtain Haag Certification

Additional Qualifications Preferred:

  • Current Hawaii State Independent Adjusters License
  • Water Mitigation Certification preferred for Adjuster III level and above
  • Claims Property Experience preferred
  • Some accounting experience helpful
