Job Title: Civil Restoration Design Engineer (Hydrological Engineering)
Location: Can work out of any of our Northern California office locations - Oakland, San Francisco, Petaluma, Sacramento, or San Jose
Thriving environmental consulting firm specializing in the planning, design, mitigation, and restoration for projects across our communities, infrastructure systems, open spaces, and wildlands; currently in need of a Civil Restoration Design Engineer (Hydrological Engineering) to join any one of our Northern California office locations in Oakland, San Francisco, Petaluma, Sacramento, or San Jose.

This Civil Restoration Design Engineer (Hydrological Engineering) is a mid- to senior-level role which performs, and in some cases leads, multi-faceted natural resource, water resource and civil engineering related designs, calculations, analyses and tasks. This Civil Restoration Design Engineer (Hydrological Engineering) may specialize in one or more areas, including, but not limited to: civil, water resources, or coastal engineering; hydrology, hydraulics, geomorphology, environmental restoration, flood management and water quality.
Civil Restoration Design Engineer (Hydrological Engineering) Qualifications and Experience Needed:
Minimum of 5+ years of civil engineering or water resources engineering experience in relevant scientific or environmental consulting firm environment
Must possess strong skills and experience using design and modeling software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, HEC RAS, HEC HMS and others.
Bachelor"s degree or higher in Civil Engineering or related field
Must have EIT Certification or current Professional Engineer license

Must possess a valid driver"s license
Able to pass a federal and state background check for project-based assignments.
Civil Restoration Design Engineer (Hydrological Engineering) Core Job Responsibilities
This Restoration Design Engineer (Hydrological Engineering) will serve as a technical specialist, may serve as Project Manager on basic or moderately complex projects, and may serve as Deputy Project Manager or Task Manager on more complex Restoration, Hydrology, and Hydraulic projects. This Restoration Design Engineer (Hydrological Engineering) primarily works with limited direction, but may receive substantial direction on complex assignments. May have regular client interaction, and may represent our firm through various business development and marketing activities.
Core Consulting Competencies & Responsibilities
  • Technical & Professional Expertise:
Serves as a technical specialist, uses judgment and critical thinking to select, apply and adapt standard engineering techniques, methods and procedures for a wide range of lower to moderately complex ecosystem restoration, flood management, fish passage, stormwater management, and other water resources and civil engineering studies.
Performs and sometimes leads hydrographic, and topographic surveys; hydrologic, hydraulic, and geomorphic modeling and analysis.
Possesses an in-depth understanding of regulations, policies, and principles in topics and locations of expertise.
May perform complex hydrologic, hydraulic, and geomorphic modeling and analyses.
May develop engineering design plans, specifications and cost estimates.
Prepares clear, concise, well-written and supported documents with minimal revisions.
  • Leadership, Communication & Collaboration:
Proactively identifies and contributes constructively to address specific project or team issues to foster teamwork.
Participates in and/or leads client meetings; presents information and/or supports clients at public meetings and hearings.
Solid writing skills, excellent oral presentation skills, active listening skills, and ability to present information understandably and speak persuasively about complex topics to clients, agency staff, teaming partners, other project stakeholders and the general public.
May have direct reports; may supervise individuals or small groups of entry to mid-level staff. Takes initiative to provide mentoring and coaching to more junior staff.
May serve as primary client contact in a variety of capacities, and represents our firm at client meetings, field meetings, and team meetings.
  • Project & Fiscal Responsibility:
Primarily performs work with limited direction; works with substantial direction for complex assignments.
Works collaboratively with clients and interdisciplinary teams to deliver project assignments on time and within budget.
May serve as Project Manager on basic or moderately complex projects, and may serve as Deputy Project Manager or Task Manager on more complex projects.
Demonstrates understanding of project management principles and practices.
Participates in project management training.
Serves as peer reviewer and may perform QC review of work done by others.
  • Business Development & Marketing Responsibility:
Prepares scopes of work and budgets for proposals or contract negotiations, provides technical input, and participates in interviews.
May lead marketing and business development for selected tasks and/or projects of moderate complexity. May lead business development discussions and decisions, including with clients, with direction.
Participates in professional associations and conferences including making presentations, and may participate in networking activities to cultivate clients. May participate in business development and marketing training.
Performs Other Related Duties As Required.
