ABOUT DEENSCORP:

DEENSCORP is a private civil engineering design consultant firm. Our firm specializes in public works transportation infrastructure projects, such as roadways, traffic signals, rail transit facilities, and communication systems.


JOB DESCRIPTION:

DEENSCORP is seeking a Civil Engineer II with three (3) years of experience in transportation engineering projects. Under direct supervision, the Civil Engineer will perform a variety of civil engineering and surveying tasks in support of project engineers and managers for transportation projects.


The ideal candidate should have 3 years of experience reviewing and/or developing right-of-way documents for projects and be familiar with field and office surveying methods and practices. The position is full-time, located in San Jose, and will be stationed at client's office for duration of employment. Position includes benefit package (health, vacation, sick and holidays).


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education and Experience

  • Intermediate Professional Experience using AutoCAD, Civil3D and Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in civil engineering and transportation projects.

Other Requirements

  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job assignment.
  • Stationed at clients’ office for duration of project.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Practical understanding of engineering plans and able to interpret contract documents
  • Experience interpreting right-of-way documents, legal descriptions, and survey maps
  • Experience in right-of-way engineering
  • Experience in plan checks and review.

License

  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for duration of employment.


TYPICAL DUTIES:

The Civil Engineer II shall perform the following duties (included, but not limited, to):

  • Support the preparation of plans, specifications, schedules, calculations and cost estimates for roadways and transportation systems projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of right-of-way mapping, topographic and boundary survey drawings, utility drawings, Record or Survey Maps, ALTA Surveys, Parcel and Subdivision Maps, and exhibits to accompany legal descriptions
  • Use AutoCAD in preparation of right-of-way and surveying exhibits and plans.
  • Assist in researching, compiling, and analyzing: Records of Survey, Plats, Legal Documents, Right-of-Way Maps, Government Land Office Data, and Utility Drawings and Sketches
  • Review and write legal descriptions, and using CAD to lay out property, easement, rights-of-way and permits from legal descriptions
  • Coordinate with Design Engineers, Utility Companies, and Real Estate Division
  • Respond to questions, write replies, review and comment on engineering plans, maps, and other documents as generated by engineers, contractors and public agencies

The ideal candidate should have the following knowledge, skill, and abilities to carry out assigned duties:

  • Basic transportation, engineering design, and construction administration & activities
  • Focus on the important matters, effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload and meet deadlines
  • Write clear, concise reports, using correct composition, English grammar, and spelling
  • Interact, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including the public, clients, and coworkers
  • Basic knowledge of field and office surveying drafting, methods and practices
  • Basic project cost estimating scheduling and plan preparation
  • Be a team player, courteous to others, and punctual and prepared to receive tasks
  • Work in a team-based environment to resolve problems, achieve common goals, and successfully deliver projects
  • Computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, scheduling tools, computer-aided drafting, and design (CADD) with civil engineering modules
  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Maintain records, logs, and databases
  • Make accurate mathematical calculations and engineering computations and drawings
