Position Summary Information

General Information
The College of Integrated Science and Engineering (CISE) seeks a talented self-starter to write compelling feature stories, student/faculty/alumni profiles, and press releases to promote CISE programs, experiences, and events.
Approximately 7-10 hours per week with flexible scheduling. Some evenings/weekends will be required to cover events.
This employment opportunity may be compatible with the internship expectations of the JMU WRTC major.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain valuable experience in writing and content creation and gain hands-on experience while in school. The position offers flexible hours, a chance to work on exciting projects, and the opportunity to build a professional portfolio. In addition, many stories will be featured on the JMU website, social media, and CISE magazine.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Write original, compelling content for feature stories, press releases, spotlights, and marketing materials
  • Research and gather information on assigned topics to ensure accuracy and relevance
  • Edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy, consistency, and readability
  • Collaborate with others to develop content ideas and strategies
  • Meet deadlines and produce high-quality content consistently
  • Stay up to date on best practices in writing and content creation
  • Write compelling stories for digital and print publications

  • Self-starter with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled storyteller with a passion for creating engaging content
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Strong work ethic, professionalism, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Creativity and originality
  • Ability to conduct interviews on a wide variety of subjects
  • Enthusiasm for science, technology, and engineering
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Conditions of Employment

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
