About the Team
As a member of the USDS Legal Policy Operations (LPO) team, you will be integral in ensuring that TikTok is a safe and trustworthy place for our community. Our team is a specialized group covering Privacy, Intellectual Property & Identity and Legal Response. Within and across each vertical, we work together to develop efficient workflows and thoughtful policies that mitigate legal risk. We are here to ensure a scalable model to meet what the law requires in an operationally feasible way while protecting user rights. We support our Trust and Safety organization, and wider company colleagues ensure that we are sustaining an equitable platform that inspires creativity across all markets.
About the Job
As a Child Safety Specialist, within the Legal Response Team (LRT) at TikTok, you’ll be part of a global effort that ensures the timely detection and removal of content across the broad spectrum of online child endangerment, such as child sexual abuse and exploitation. Through close partnerships with Legal, Policy, and Product & Process teams, you will manage global time-sensitive escalations, and child endangerment incidents to protect our online community.
You will also work closely with internal teams to create and streamline business and operational processes, develop detailed documentation and process diagrams, and increase our overall operational efficiency to ensure our products are free of any violative content. The team is seeking a candidate with a strong work ethic, excellent judgment, exceptional partnering skills and a passion for protecting children.
Note: This position will include reviewing content and writing policies for some materials that may be offensive or sensitive to some people.
Responsibilities
  • Review and assess inbound escalations from Law Enforcement and other teams
  • Conduct review of both live/historical user generated content with a detail-oriented approach and in accordance with team guidance for reporting to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC)
  • Demonstrate operational excellence on a team that evaluates legal risk and user privacy in the world centered around child safety
  • Execute on repetitive core work tasks while maintaining attention to detail and keeping an eye out for potential process improvements
  • Support inbound queue based internal escalations related to the most vulnerable users in our community
  • Lead escalations of urgent legal requests, liaising with Product, Policy, Communications and Legal teams whenever necessary
  • Draft internal documentation, workflows and procedures concerning safety and data disclosure
  • Be aware of and willing to operate in a work environment with sensitive content that includes child sexual abuse, exploitation and other material that may be considered offensive or disturbing
  • Availability to potentially work on weekends or other outside of normal US office hours as par of either a rotational basis or a regular schedule as needed
Qualifications
  • Up to 5 years of experience working in technology, safety, or a related field
  • Address sensitive content issues, including but not limited to graphic images, videos and writings, offensive or derogatory language, child safety, and other potentially objectionable material
  • Experience in reviewing or being exposed to sensitive content and a deep
  • Ability to work successfully in cross-functional teams
  • Strong attention to detail, highly self-driven and results oriented.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

Job Information
The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $65478 - $130888 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.
