Job Description

Johnson County Health & Environment department is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of a Child Care Licensing Specialist. The position is located at 11811 S Sunset Drive, Suite 2700, Olathe, KS 66061. This position will inspect centers and school age programs that fall under these sets of regulations. Position will either complete school inspections or may assist in school inspections and other duties as assigned.

Other duties will include:

  • Inspects and analyzes data; designs and conducts surveys and studies in assigned specialty area; performs technical analyses and assists in the evaluation of plans and specifications.
  • Gathers and records information on complaints, inspections, emergency calls, and requests for investigation/evaluations; initiates and follows up on correction of health and safety conditions; enforces applicable laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Prepares case histories; testifies at court and/or regulatory hearings.
  • Instructs/trains new staff on KDHE regulations, complaints and child care protocols and procedures.
  • Corresponds with division director, Team leader, and/or KDHE administrative staff regarding the status of facilities, including making recommendations regarding licensure, exceptions, and legal enforcement actions.
  • Meets with other program staff, Team Lead, and/or Division Director to organize the workload and review the problem areas in order to complete assignments in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepares reports for state agencies; utilizes and maintains databases and files; provides information and assistance in response to routine requests for information; provides technical assistance and/or training and public education to new staff, providers, parents, health department staff and community on early childhood topics in individual and/or group settings .
Job Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Biology, Nursing, Early Education, Social Work, or a related field is required. A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is also required.

Within sixty (60) days of hire, employees must produce proof of immunization, proof of immunity, proof that immunization is medically contraindicated, submit a written objection to immunization based upon a sincerely held religious belief, or receive vaccination for the following: Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR); Tetanus Diphtheria and Acellular Pertussis (TDAP); and Varicella (Chickenpox).

Master’s degree in related field of study, two (2) years of related experience, and certification in a related field are preferred.

The qualified candidate will need to be detail oriented, have excellent time management skills, very good verbal and written communication skills, good computer skills, good observation and interview skills, and the ability to work in noisy, fast paced environments.
