Overview:
The Assistant Teacher II shares responsibility with the Lead Teacher for designing, implementing, and supervising age-appropriate curriculum, managing all classroom activities and interactions, supervising students and volunteers, and maintaining a safe and healthy environment. Models? flexibility in work schedule to meet the changing needs of Center enrollment and staffing patterns.

Schedule:
Monday-Friday (9am-6:30pm)

Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to State Licensing regulations, NAEYC, SUTQ, and Center policies.
  • Provides a welcoming environment for children and parents, demonstrates problem solving skills in all communications, and portrays a positive, enthusiastic, and professional attitude. Collaborates in arranging and conducting parent/teacher conferences.
  • Collaborates in planning curriculum based upon knowledge of child development and observations to provide an optimal and safe environment for young children.
  • Provides supervision that ensures children are constantly attended by Center staff. Monitors children in the group and reports any unusual symptoms to parents or administrator.
  • Participates in safety practice drills. Attends staff meetings and community workshops.
  • Supervises and delegates classroom responsibilities to part-time assistant teachers, volunteers, and student teachers. Maintains cleanliness and order in the classroom.
  • Maintains all required records including attendance, meal counts, conference reports, and prepares other required classroom records.
  • Utilizes Center materials, resources, and helps maintain resources to aide in continued Center educational growth.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelors degree or Associate degree in Early Childhood or a related field, or two-year certificate in early child development, Child Development Associate, or the ability to achieve a Child Development Associate.
Required Experience:
  • Ability to supervise and provide direction for part-time assistant teachers, students, and volunteers.
  • Communication skills necessary to effectively interact with children, parents/guardians, peers, teachers, and administrators.
  • Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities.
Preferred Experience:
  • Hands on experience in an early childhood education program, preferred.
