Job Description

Vanderbilt Temporary Services is currently seeking several temporary Assistant Teachers.

This role allows for flexible schedules!

The Vanderbilt Child & Family Center offers quality early childhood education and cares for the children ages infants (6 weeks) to five years old of Vanderbilt Faculty, staff, and students. The Tennessee Department of Human Services licenses the Child & Family Center. We are seeking an Early Childhood Associate that will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment. Additionally, the early childhood associate will monitor the children's behavior and development, utilize developmental profiles, and evaluate activities based on the needs of the children.

The Child & Family Center offers quality early childhood education and care for the children of Vanderbilt Faculty, staff, and students. The program serves children age infants (6 weeks) to five years old. The Tennessee Department of Human Services licenses the Centers. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise personnel assigned to assist with classroom activities (including students, assistants, and volunteers)
  • Monitors classroom and playground for cleanliness and safety according to established policies
  • Submits reports necessary for compliance with licensing agencies, including attendance records and other daily reports

  • Promotes and maintains confidentiality concerning information related to children, parents, and co-workers
  • Assesses/prepares plans and curriculum based on children's individual's needs and levels of development
  • Participates in and contributes to staff meetings, parent meetings/conferences, and opportunities for professional development.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, orderly classroom environment that contributes to the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth of children. (Per NAEYC, DOE, OSHA, Risk Management, and Center policies)
  • Prepares and distributes classroom newsletter weekly or bi-weekly
  • Work with supervisors to maintain an inventory of supplies and materials
  • Implements developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities according to NAEYC guidelines, DOE licensing standards, and center policy

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required
  • Ability to lift to 40 pounds is required
  • Experience working with children in a supervised setting is required
  • Ability to adapt to the center's needs and hours; hours required to work are 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM. However, this role allows for flexible schedules according to the employee's unique situation.
  • Early Childhood education credentials, such as a CDA preferred
  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred
  • Ability to reach, run, sit, squat, stoop, and walk is required .
  • Strong communication skills are required
  • One year of first childhood education experience is required
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills and be flexible
  • Ability to interact well with children, families, and campus faculty and staff
