Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Chaplain, per diem.
In this role, the successful candidate In this role, the successful candidate will provide spiritual care to patients, families and staff at NYU Langone Hospitals services using an inter-faith model of care and working within the patient's belief and value system.
Job Responsibilities:
- Mentor CPE student and volunteers, as assigned by the manager
- Ensure a safe environment and effective communicate with all age groups of patients served by the Chaplaincy Services Department.
- Plan and lead worship opportunities, including interfaith memorial services, as assigned by manager
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, when possible, and facilitate communication between health care team members
- Lead spirituality/study/support groups as assigned by the manager
- Adhere to Standards of Practice of the Association of Professional Chaplains and the principles and practices of Outcome Oriented Chaplaincy
- Provide support to staff, as individuals request it, or through participation in institutional events such as Nurses Week or when groups request it after traumatic events and loss.
- Document all chaplaincy activities in a timely manner according to department protocols.
- Develop plan of care and provide spiritual /emotional support to patients, families: listening presence, prayer, reading sacred texts, ethical guidance, sacraments. The plan must be age appropriate for all care recipients.
- Contribute to the wider community through publication, teaching, and research.
- Promote an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care among all chaplains.
- Participate in regular professional development activities and supervision.
- Participate in the departments plan for continuous quality improvement.
- Facilitate additional spiritual/religious support from community religious leaders, including specific sacramental or religious needs
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Function in such a manner that reflects the mission and vision of the institution
- Advise manager of important patient/clinical issues as they arise
- Maintain a positive working relationship between the department of Chaplaincy Services and medical staff, nursing staff, and other departments.
- Serve on institutional committees as appointed.
- Assess patient and family spiritual needs and assist patients and families in using their spiritual resources in dealing with illness, trauma, and stress. All assessments and plans must be age appropriate for the care recipient.
- Provide appropriate spiritual care interventions to families andsupport staff during and following codes and traumas.
- Participate in teaching/lecturing on a regular or periodic basis as invited.
- Complete office or administrative tasks as assigned with expectation of computer literacy and in accordance with institutional policy.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a To qualify you must have the level of knowledge acquired through the completion of a Master of Divinity degree, Master of Arts in Religion, or Master of Pastoral Counseling from an accredited school of theology or Ordination In process for ordination or commissioning by recognized religious group. Successfully completed 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education recognized by the US Department of Education.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification as Board Certified Chaplain by the Association of Professional Chaplains, National Association of Catholic Chaplains, or National Association of Jewish Chaplains or certification eligibility and must obtain certification within two years.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $35.13 - $45.71 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
