Position Information
The School of Business and Technology is currently seeking an individual who is entrepreneurial-minded, community-focused, a relationship development leader, and has Hospitality and Tourism Industry experience to serve as Chairperson of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
The chairperson position is a full-time, twelve-month, administrative appointment which may also carry a nine-month (tenure or tenure-track) faculty appointment as either an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The chairperson position reports directly to the Dean, School of Business and Technology.
The HTM department offers an undergraduate degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management which is housed in the state-of-the art Richard Henson Conference Center featuring hotel guest rooms, banquet service and production facilities, as well as specialized laboratories, classrooms, and faculty offices. Concentrations or Minors are available in Culinary Arts Restaurant, Management, Food & Beverage Management, Hotel Administration and Travel/Tourism. In addition to offering an HTM program at the Princess Anne location, the department also offers upper-division hospitality & tourism management courses at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville as well as at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown, where students take lower-division level culinary arts and hospitality courses and all upper-division courses required for the degree. The HTM Department also administratively houses the Bachelor of Science in PGA Golf Management (PGM).
The position is a full-time twelve-month administrative appointment and reports directly to the Dean of the School of Business and Technology. The position may also carry a tenure or tenure track faculty appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor.

Responsibilities
The Chairperson is the administrative and academic officer of the department and is responsible for curricula and new program development, administering and monitoring the departmental budget, attending to personnel matters, supervising the academic programs within the Department; assures that the performance of the Hospitality and Tourism Management program (BS) meets the curriculum standards of the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA) and the PGA Golf Management programs meets the standards set by the Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA). The Chair will be responsible for fiscal management, marketing, and maintaining high standards in the department. The chairperson provides leadership and promotes the attainment of the Department’s mission and goals. The chairperson is also responsible for the supervision, administration, development, and maintenance of quality standards for the two off-campus programs, one at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) and the other at the University of Systems of Maryland Hagerstown (USMH).
Essential Job Duties:
  • Assigning and assessing the distribution of faculty workload including instructional, research, and service responsibilities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Developing, leading, and encouraging outreach and public service efforts.
  • Experience working with program-level accreditation.
  • Managing non-faculty staff members.
  • Leading and coordinating Departmental strategic planning and curriculum development.
  • Coordinating the development of and implementing the Departmental Vision and Goals Statement.
  • Leading Departmental efforts toward achieving University goals and initiatives.
  • Coordinating the professional development of faculty members.
  • Managing the Departmental budget.
