The mission of the Division of the Alaska Pioneer Homes is: "Providing elder Alaskans a home and community, celebrating life through its final breath."
This position is a member of an outstanding nursing and direct care staff and plays a vital role in providing person-centered support in a safe environment for up to one hundred sixty-five (65) elder residents.

What you will be doing: This position is part of a team that provides high quality personal care to assisted living home residents in a warm, supportive, and caring manner; and has lead responsibility for multiple Assisted living Aide and Certified Nurse Aide I positions to assign duties and tasks, review and provide recommendations for evaluation of work performance, provide training and professional counselling, and provide recommendations for disciplinary actions as necessary.

The working environment you can expect: This job is located in the Sitka Pioneer Home, an assisted living home in the heart of downtown at 120 Katlian Street in Sitka, Alaska. Imagine working in an environment on a beautiful waterfront campus, renowned for its gorgeous and aromatic rose hedges and scenic views.
Who we are looking for: Position-specific knowledge, skills and abilities that are desired or contribute to the success in this position:
  • Staff Performance: Skill and ability to observe and document the performance of staff and ensure resolutions are acted on appropriately and completely by team members.
  • Train Others: Skill and ability to develop and present in-service training to all staff in the facility on topics such as the Eden Alternative, residents' rights, and operation of equipment. Includes the ability to convey information, orally or in writing to a variety of individuals.
  • Elder care Problem Solving: Skill and ability to Identify and effectively recommend resolutions to problems and issues related to residents, the environment, and relationships (i.e. physical comfort, safety, privacy, individual involvement, and spiritual well-being).
  • Provide Elder Care in a Lead Capacity: Skill and ability to lead and guide multiple Assisted Living Aide and Certified Nurse Aide 1 positions to provide individualized elder care to residents with specific care routines, and meet documentation requirements while respecting residents' rights, and following the Eden alternative approach to care in a warm, supportive, and caring manner.
  • Organize and Monitor: Skill and ability to organize staff, assign tasks to team members to best meet the needs of the residents, and monitor, evaluate and document performance of team members.
Other Job information:
  • Employees of the Pioneer Home receive continual screening for tuberculosis and criminal history.
  • This position is in support of the Pioneer Home, which is a 24 hour facility.
  • This Pioneer Home is an Eden Alternative facility, where the environment includes contact with plants, flowers, and pets including cats, dogs, fish and birds.

Minimum Qualifications

Eligibility for certification to practice as a Certified Nurse Aide in the State of Alaska;
AND
One year of experience as a Certified Nurse Aide I with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Special Note:
Candidates not currently certified by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for certification as a Nurse Aide in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of certification will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.
Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.
Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

Additional Required Information

At time of interview applicant must provide:

  • Present a copy of current State of Alaska Certified Nurse Aide certificate or proof of eligibility for licensure.
  • Two (2) professional references (including work/supervisor-related) and three (3) character references (personal) with current contact information.

If selected and prior to hire, applicant will be asked to:
  • Provide current evidence of negative results to COVID-19 (coronavirus) testing performed within two (2) weeks prior to start date. See IMPORTANT NOTE below.
  • Provide a copy of current CPR and First Aid certificate(s), if available.
  • Provide current evidence to be free from active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) with test results dated within the last 12 months prior to start date.
  • Submit to fingerprinting and criminal background check screening.
