The Hampton Roads Community Health Center is looking for Certified Medical Assistants committed to providing excellent care to our patients with an emphasis on compassion, professionalism, and quality outcomes of patient care based on current evidence based practice and quality measures. This position supports work life balance by offering a Monday through Friday schedule working 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Scans upcoming appointments for additional medical record information necessary; obtains medical records from other physician offices, hospitals, labs, emergency rooms and radiology prior to patient visit; administers injections of medications or immunizations in accordance with approved nursing protocols; and observes patients for any reaction to medications, immunizations, treatments, and significant incidents.
Cross trains in all clinical departments, helps with pharmacy requests, in house labs, and enters of all data in the Electronic Medical record; prepares and disinfects exam rooms for patient visits, restocks clinical area, exam rooms, and supply rooms; and sterilizes/disinfects instruments when used (including autoclaving) and maintains medical equipment.
Performs administrative support work such as word processing, creating spreadsheets, data entry and retrieval; orders, monitors and distributes program supplies/resources; and other information to ensure accuracy and conformance to established procedures and policies; and counsels patients regarding patient responsibilities and rights; adheres to patient confidentiality guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Satisfactory completion of state approved medical assistant program. Successful completion of a medical assistant certification (Certified Medical Assistant CMA, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant CCMA, or Registered Medical Assistant RMA) is required. Previous medical practice experience preferred. Must be certified in Basic Life Support by the American Heart Association techniques.
- Patient Care – Basic understanding of patient care, medical terminology, coding procedures, reference tools, and appropriate clinical pharmacology for medical assistant practice scope.
- HIPAA – Knowledge of the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to ensure the privacy and safeguard patient information. Ensuring compliance with all health care regulations and OSHA.
- Customer Service — Considerable knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. This includes meeting quality standards for service.
- Technology — Knowledge of electronic medical health care record systems, general office equipment and personal computers to include word processing, spreadsheet, and related software. Comprehensive knowledge of office systems, practices, procedures, and administration.

- Computer Skills – Utilizes a personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet, and related software to effectively complete a variety of financial tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy.
- Time Management - Plans and organizes daily work routine. Estimates expected time of completion of elements of work and establishes a personal schedule accordingly. Implements work activities in accordance with priorities and estimated schedules.
- Interpersonal Relationships – Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with patients, employees and all levels of management to include representatives from other departments and organizations.

- Communication – Ability to effectively communicate ideas and proposals verbally and in writing, to include the preparation of detailed logs which include numerical information.
- Judgment/Decision Making — Evaluates the best method of research and then exercises appropriate judgment in establishing priorities and resolving complex matters. Considers the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
