Job Description
  • Regularly assists in baking, cooking and pre-pack activities and supervising staff in a high-volume, repetitive, assembly line, institutional-type work environment.
  • Monitors and records all kitchen equipment temperatures, proper food heating and cooling times and temperatures according to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) requirements.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent. Two years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of the education requirement.
  • Prepares and slices food for cooking, slices meats and cheese, cuts entree and dessert items into required serving portions, scoops, dips, fills pre-plate containers, wraps food, loads and unloads baskets, carts, buckets, containers, and performs other related assignments.
  • Ensures that regulations pertaining to sanitation and food safety practices are observed and maintained.
  • Efficiently performs repetitive tasks in a fast paced, high production/large volume, assembly line environment for extended periods of time.
  • Three years of experience in institutional type, high production, large volume, assembly line work environment.
  • Safely operates various types of institutional kitchen equipment.
  • Assists in the maintenance and interpretation of current and accurate records of supplies used and products prepared.
  • Carries large trays, industrial size buckets, and heavy baking pans from one location to another.
  • Performs basic equipment maintenance (change film, clears jams, reload trays).
  • Assists in work direction of staff, to include assisting in training and orientation of new staff, and mentoring of employees to improve and develop work skills.
  • One year of previous experience in supervision of staff and work functions.
  • Works on an assembly line where standing in place and filling pre-plate packages, scooping, dipping, lifting, and catching is routine work.
  • Maintains current and accurate records.
  • Assists in all food preparation areas such as baking, ingredients room, cooking, packaging, laundry, dish room, staging area, coolers, and freezer.
  • Participates, as needed, in operational meetings with the Central Kitchen Manager and Lead.
  • Must attend the eight-hour ASD Serving It Safe food safety course and pass the associated examination within 21 calendar days from date of hire into the position.
  • Experience preparing and interpreting simple reports.
  • Adjusts approved recipes to accommodate larger or smaller batches as necessary.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding cooking and baking procedures.
  • Wipes counters, cleans and sanitizes equipment, sweeps and mops floors, works in the laundry, removes trash, and performs other routine cleaning/sanitation tasks.
  • Must be able to work effectively with standardized recipes.
  • Establishes and maintains positive and effective working relationships with students, staff, supervisors, other Anchorage School District personnel, and the public.
  • Must be proficient in basic math such as addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
  • Assists in conducting daily inventory of finished products, ensuring quality and production control is maintained.
