Under the direction of the Collection Supervisor, greets and directs donors and guests of the blood center at mobile blood drives. Performs registration of donors in the Blood Establishment Computer System (BECS) per Registration Standard Operating Procedures.


Supports organizational quality efforts by accepting responsibility for


  • Participating in the implementation of solutions to problems.
  • Reporting any problems relating to the product, process, and quality system, and


Essential Functions


  • WORK HOURS AND DAYS VARY SO MUST BE VERY FLEXIBLE
  • Complies with CBC safety policies and procedures
  • Set up registration area
  • Print donor History Form, as applicable
  • Following MUO transport, responsible for docking the laptops servers per SOP
  • Must be able to confidently communicate and interpret intermediate information in English to all members of the public and CBC staff
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding donors and staff
  • Create a donor visit and enter appropriate collection type, use type, and group code
  • Question donor about previous names or nicknames
  • Maintains safe and clean registration area by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Tear down reception area and pack equipment for transport
  • Access donor in BECS system and verify or enter address, telephone, and other applicable demographic information
  • Greet donors in a friendly fashion
  • Give donor educational materials and provide instructions on completing donor questionnaire
  • Assists with unloading and loading of trucks by helping to bring items from truck to mobile sites.
  • Review donor consent when applicable


Education


  • High school diploma or equivalent. Must provide a copy of the transcript.


Experience


  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills required.


Knowledge


  • Computer knowledge and experience is helpful but not necessary

Under the supervision of the Collection Supervisor, perform donor suitability, histories and blood collection procedures. Ensures the safety of the donor and safety, purity and potency of the blood collected. Assists in the set-up and break down of the mobile site equipment before and after the mobile (if applicable). Performs various regulated functions related to the care of the blood after collections, including storage and transportation. Promotes positive image of CBC to the Community.


Essential Functions


  • Labels all blood collection materials according to SOP.
  • Takes and documents donor blood pressure, pulse and temperature.
  • Performs blood collection procedures according to SOPs, including Quality Control, skin preparation, phlebotomy, obtaining tube samples and removing needles.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service when dealing with donors, members of the community and co-workers.
  • Determines donor hemoglobin by obtaining a finger-stick sample.
  • Cares for blood after collection, including segmenting, providing temporary storage and transportation to the center, when necessary.
  • Assists in unloading, assembling, maintain, dismantling and reloading of equipment and supplies (if applicable).
  • Exhibits professionalism in dress, personal grooming and hygiene.
  • Must be able to confidently communicate and interpret intermediate information in English to all members of the public and CBC staff.
  • Performs donor interview and evaluates suitability of donor for donation based on current Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) criteria.
  • Attends to donor’s comfort and safety post donation, including those having reactions or complications to the procedure and notifying the Collection Supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information regarding donors.
  • Complies with CBC safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance.


Education


  • High school diploma or equivalent - Must provide a copy of the transcript.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Medical Assistant degree preferred.


Experience


Prefer an individual with at least 6 months experience in


  • Phlebotomy.
  • A health-related field, and


Licenses/Certifications


  • Mobile Staff Must have and maintain a valid operator’s license (MO class E; KS class C)
  • Fixed Site Staff Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license


Knowledge


  • Proficient in all duties related to Donor Room Assistant.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.


Skills & Abilities


  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Computer skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good writing skills to successfully document as needed.
  • Good verbal skills to successfully communicate with donors, chairpersons, community, and co-workers.
