POSITION TITLE: International Short Term Program ESL/Cultural Instructor
HIRING UNIT: University of Hawaii - West Oahu
LOCATION: Kapolei, HI
POSITION TYPE: Casual Hire
HOURLY RATE: $45.00 per hour, not to exceed 30 hours per week.
OTHER CONDITIONS: Position is expected to start June 15, 2023 and not to exceed August 1, 2023.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ESL/Cultural instructors for the University of Hawaii–West O’ahu's International Short Term Programs will provide an intensive English as a Second Language course for international students. ESL instructors shall plan, organize, and carry out responsibilities associated with the role of an instructor. (We are planning to hire up to 4 instructors for the Summer 2023 STP programs).

• Teach students English speaking skills, vocabulary, and grammar via group presentation assignments, daily English journals, group activities (etc.)
• Provide students with a learning opportunity to broaden educational experience and deepen their understanding of the English Language and American/Local Culture.
• Instructors will also integrate various activities that will aid students in connecting their English learning with practical applications in their daily lives.
• Immerse students in an English-speaking environment and Local Culture.
• Course will focus on English writing, pronunciation, grammar, conversation, and basic English for Hospitality scenarios.
• Teach ESL/Cultural courses to students in an in-person environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least two years of teaching experience in primary, secondary, college-level, or English as a second language education.
• Proficient oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrate respect for values and cultural difference.
• Flexible and adaptable nature
• Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, English as a Second Language, or related fields
• Ability to travel (on island)
