Job Description

Overview

:
Payment posters are responsible for applying payments and adjustments as appropriate to patient accounts based on explanation of benefits and contractual guidelines. Job also consists of balancing all transactions posted to billing system daily and monthly. May contact insurance companies to obtain missing EOB’s and information. Must be able to understand and evaluate EOB’s.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but not limited to):

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Apply any unidentified payment amounts in unapplied account.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Navigate a system of workbook/spreadsheets, document storage and practice management system to complete assigned work.
  • Must be able to meet productivity targets.
  • Maintain an accuracy rating of 97% or greater on audited accounts.
  • Notify Manager of any irregularities noticed in payment or coding
  • Complete assigned workqueue tasks requiring research in patient accounts and document management systems.
  • Accurately post and/or record information to appropriate patient accounts and transactions based on explanation of benefits.
  • Call or retrieve from payer portals unidentified offset details to post
  • Log onto remit or clearinghouse portals to navigate and obtain electronic or PDF files.
  • Understanding full payment posting process and able to provide feedback to create pathways
  • Daily Cash Reconciliation
  • Resolving of posting issue and identifying trends in electronic remit posting issues
  • Independently evaluate explanation of payments for patient accounts and understand correspondence based on knowledge of policy and personal discretion.
  • Balance all transactions made to deposit totals per posting batch.
  • Maintain strictest confidentiality.
  • Identify and/or participate in departmental and organizational process improvement efforts.

Qualifications

:
JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
  • Knowledge of explanation of benefits denial and adjustment codes
  • Ability to work effectively with staff
  • Must meet minimum expectations
  • Knowledge of organization policies, procedures and systems
  • Skill in computer applications including MS word, MS Excel
  • Skill in verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Skill in gathering and reporting information
  • Must report to work consistently, on time, and for expected duration
  • Good mathematical skills a must
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Must have a pleasant disposition and be a team player
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Proactively prioritizes needs and effectively manages resources and time
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in payment posting preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching
  • Required normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports and evaluations
  • Must possess sufficient eye-hand coordination/manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment
WORKING CONDITIONS (environment and safety):
  • Involves frequent contact with professional staff and managed care organizations
  • Work may be stressful at times
  • Work performed in Remote (Home) environment
