What To Expect
This role is for a Cash Applications Accountant within Tesla’s Corporate Accounting Services organization in Draper, Utah. This is a highly visible role with critical responsibilities relating to cash accounting and accounts receivable. As Tesla continues to grow, there is an increasing need to improve processes and leverage technology to automate and scale the accounting functions. We are seeking a high-performing individual with experience working in a fast-paced environment at a large/public company. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background and be passionate about leveraging technology to drive process improvements.
What You’ll Do

• Leverage IT tools (Excel, Power Query, Power BI, SQL) to analyze, match and reconcile large volumes of data from multiple data sources
• Contribute to month-end financial analysis and reporting
• Analyze new or unusual transactions, payment streams, or reconciling items to determine the appropriate accounting treatment in accordance with U.S. GAAP
• Prepare financial metrics, dashboards, and ad-hoc reports to provide real-time visibility and tracking of customer cash application
• Prepare materials as required for internal and external auditors
• Identify process improvement opportunities and collaborate with other departments (IT, BI, Payment Processing) to design and implement automated solutions
• Contribute to accurate and timely recording of financial transactions for multiple entities, with particular emphasis on incoming customer payments
• Work closely with key contacts in other finance departments (e.g., Revenue, Billing, Order Operations) to collaborate on cross-functional initiatives
• Research unapplied cash receipts to match them to customer accounts
• Reconcile bank activity to customer AR balances within our accounting system

What You’ll Bring

• Strong Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., Power Query, advanced formulas)
• Commitment to cultivating positive cross-functional relationships
• Bachelor's or master’s degree in Accounting; CPA is a plus
• Passionate about leveraging technology to scale business processes
• Experience with payment processing platforms is a plus (e.g., Stripe, Adyen)
• Experience working with large volumes of data (e.g., SQL, querying databases)
• 2 to 5 years of relevant accounting experience
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work quickly in a fast-paced environment
• Flexibility with nominal non-standard working hours for month-end close and to collaborate with the international teams
