Job Description

Are you a jack of all trades and enjoy doing a little bit of everything?

UPMC is looking to hire a Full-Time, Carpenter with a starting location in Harrisburg.

This position will travel to other UPMC locations to complete various construction projects, so no two days will be the same.

You will need to provide your own hand tools and UPMC will provide power tools and any special tools required to complete the job.

Typical work hours are Mon.-Fri. from 6am-2:30pm with an occasional weekend and off hours to meet project deadlines.

Purpose:
To perform advanced carpenter work necessary for the building, renovation, maintenance and repair of the Business Unit and its entities.
Responsibilities:

  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field and actively partakes in related training and educational programs.
  • Maintains effective communication with Facilities Engineering, contractors, vendors and other medical center personnel.
  • Performs advanced carpentry and masonry construction and renovation from engineering drawings and sketches.
  • Designs, constructs and installs custom made wood and laminated casework.
  • Instructs and works with Carpenters level I and II.
  • Maintains inventory, compiles materials needed for assigned work, cares for and maintains assigned medical center tools and equipment; serves as leader of assigned projects.
  • Demonstrates Hamot's commitment to Service Excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated and thorough.
  • Repairs and maintains all carpentry and masonry items or other duties related to, but not limited to, the maintenance preventative maintenance (P.M.) of doors, windows, chairs, etc.
  • Adapts metal cabinets as required.

  • High School graduate or equivalent with one year of vocational training.
  • Five years of experience in a related field.
  • Must be able to read schematic drawings and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of building codes and procedures as they pertain to hospital construction.
  • Two years of experience may be acceptable in lieu of formal training.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34 with renewal
