Title: Career Coach
Program: Career Pathways
Reports to: Director of Programs
Location: Evanston, IL
Type: Full-time
Salary Range: $48,000-$51,000 annually
This position is a career coach for a multi-sector Career Pathways program, working collaboratively with Youth Job Center’s (YJC) larger program team. This person will work closely with clients to provide support toward long-term career success. Additionally, they will engage employers, training programs, community colleges, and other partners to recruit, train, and support eligible clients. YJC serves young adults ages 14-25, our Career Pathways program works with clients aged 16-24. This is a hybrid role working out of YJC’s Evanston office.
Education/Work Experience
- Postsecondary degree or credential, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act programming (WIOA)
- Project Management experience is required.
- Understanding of employment and certification training, and/or workforce development-based programs.
- Experience working with youth and young adults.
Principal Accountabilities
Career Pathways Programs and Services
- With YJC and partner enrollment staff, determine eligibility for specific programs, ensuring completion of enrollment.
- Recruit young people ages 16-25 into Career Pathways through partnerships with schools, agencies, and partners. Regularly attend recruitment and outreach events.
- Manage the client/employer relationship and complete applicable assessments.
- Serve as liaison to primary partners.
- With YJC Employer and Partner Relations staff, work with employer partners on placement and retention.
- YJC’s Career Pathways and Training teams, provide career exploration, goal setting, Workforce Readiness Training (WRT), financial health support, and more.
- Provide ongoing case management for Career Pathways clients up to two years after placement.
- Work with YJC staff, and higher education partners to refer to specific sector-based training programs.
- Facilitate and participate in WRT workshops.
- Match clients with employer partners for Paid Work Experiences (PWEs).
- In partnership with Employer and Partner Relations staff, provide connections to education, certification and training programs, apprenticeships, internships, job placement, and more. Share labor market trends and growth areas, guiding young adults toward goal setting in alignment with their skills/interests.
- Provide personalized career advising, coaching, placement, and retention support for a caseload of clients ages 16-25.
Data
- Consistently track and report all areas related to eligibility criteria, outcomes, activities, documentation, and other WIOA and Career Pathways requirements, including Career Connect.
- Ensure continuous management of data in YJC’s Salesforce-based Client Management System
- Record, track, and document all physical and electronic files per WIOA requirements.
Partnership
- Work with partners to identify and ensure participants' continued engagement and support a successful transition onto a career pathway.
- Manage a caseload of young people through training and career pathways programs, employment, and more
- Serve as a liaison for YJC’s program delivery, coordinating with education and nonprofit partners to provide resources, support and mitigate barriers to success.

- Serve as an ambassador for YJC.
- Reinforce a positive culture of teamwork, continuous learning, accountability, solution orientation, and data-driven decision-making.

Work Environment
- This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands
- This is primarily an in-office role, providing both virtual and in-person services; some physical action is required, moving between spaces, minimal lifting, transporting items, bending, and standing, as necessary.
