SUMMARY
The Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) specializes in cardiovascular-invasive and diagnostic testing. The RCIS works closely with interventional Cardiology and Radiologists, to assist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
C ompliance with rules and regulations of all applicable federal, state and local laws as well as PMHC policies is a condition of employment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Incumbent must have the skills, ability and judgment to perform the following essential job duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodations:
- Provides care for the optimal patient experience by adhering to the organization’s mission, vision and foundations.
- Prepares the procedure room by setting up appropriate equipment, instruments and supplies utilizing physician preference cards.
- Collects, verifies and communicates patient historical information (including medication and allergies) prior to start of case.
- Assists with patient preparation including positioning and pre-procedure skin preparation.
- Ensures patient comfort and understanding of ordered exam.
- Makes available appropriate supply/instrumentation in proper position, hands supply/instruments to physician as needed.
- Anticipates and responds appropriately to surgeon’s needs and maintains good rapport with provider.
- Performs scrub functions and demonstrates sterile technique and maintains throughout the procedure.
- Ensures optimal visualization of anatomy by directing radiographic / imaging equipment.
- Shares knowledge and skills regarding procedures, imaging, equipment and supplies with all members of the interventional team.
- Collaborates with Material Management Buyer regarding supply maintenance including new equipment requests; coordination of training for new supplies and equipment; and discussions around substitutions and alternatives.
- Assists in proper maintenance and cleaning of equipment and maintaining appropriate par levels of supplies and communicates to appropriate ordering personnel.
- Maintains all required licenses and certifications.
- Prioritizes job responsibilities and utilization of departmental resources (e.g., personnel, supplies and capital equipment) to facilitate optimum patient ca re and perform timely and accurate exams at the lowest possible risk and cost to the patient.
- Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Reports directly to the Manager of Cardiology.

While performing the duties of this job, employees the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works with explosive, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The level of risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens is Classification (I), as outlined in the Hepatitis B Vaccine Program Policy.
The noise level in the work environment is usually high.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
- Bachelors degree (B.S.N.), Associates degree (A.D.N.) or Diploma from an accredited college of nursing.
COMPETENCIES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Nebraska.
- Current BLS certification.
- Current ACLS certification within six months of hire

REQUIRED EDUCATION FOR ONE OF THE FOLLOWING
- 3 years of cath lab experience
- Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist certification preferred.
