Job Summary


Provide unarmed protection and security services to create and maintain a safe and secure environment for Hennepin Technical College (HTC) students, visitors and employees. Monitor and patrol campus grounds and buildings and assist with special event activities. Provide HTC campus and community with courteous and helpful service. Communicate with those served to determine if their concerns have been addressed and ensure their responses are shared with Director and Public Safety and other parties as appropriate. Contribute ideas for improvement in the day-to-day activities of the position and department and work with co-workers to ensure a positive work environment. Responsibilities include determining appropriate incident response, providing support and information on proper security methods for students, faculty and staff. Daily patrol of campus grounds and buildings along with parking enforcement to ensure safety and security of people and property.

This employee is also responsible, on behalf of Campus Security, for developing and maintaining effective working relationships with all employees and visitors of the College, community, governmental officials and local community organizations. As part of the daily work, this position will support the diversity goals of the College. The position will rotate between the Brooklyn Park/Eden Prairie Campuses with Brooklyn Park as the home campus. In addition, the position will perform all other job-related tasks as assigned or directed by the Director of Public Safety.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience as a Security Patrol Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, or Peace Officer.
  • Associate's degree in Law Enforcement, Paralegal or related field may substitute for 1 year of experience; Bachelor’s degree in above areas may substitute for 2 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of lock/keys schedules and related hardware
  • Able to endure exposure to changes in temperature and temperatures below zero degrees Celsius
  • Working knowledge of computer operating systems and related software
  • Material Safety Data sheet training
  • Occupational Safety (OSHA) training
  • Knowledge of Minnesota State and Hennepin Technical College policies and procedures
  • Able to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Experience with Intrusion alarms, detection and surveillance systems, access control and fire alarm systems
  • Knowledge of standard police and security practices including investigation techniques and procedures
  • Mechanical aptitude sufficient to recognize and temporarily control mechanical emergencies until skilled physical plant personnel arrive
  • CPR and AED certification
  • Right-to-Know training
  • Knowledge of City of Eden Prairie and Brooklyn Park ordinances and applicable State of Minnesota/Federal criminal and civil law as it applies to campus security

Additional Requirements

In accordance with the Minnesota State Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college/university business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State's vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
