Job Description
Seasonal Summer Camp Counselor Openings – Summer 2023
Aviator Sports and Events Center Summer Day Camp is currently searching for Seasonal Summer Camp Counselors for our “2023” Seasonal Summer Sports Day Camp program located at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York.
Camp Counselors: Oversee campers and assist with structured activities throughout the day as per the schedule such as art, music, group discussions, sports and recreational games. Minimum of 6 – 9 month’s experience working with youth in recreational/sports activities and graduating 12th grade.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
  • Assist Campers in both physical and emotional needs
  • Problem solve through situations and seek assistance with necessary
  • Assist other counselors during activities
  • Assume responsibility of safety regulations
  • Serve as a positive role model to all campers
  • Handle discipline problems when they occur, and practice positive behavior management
  • Communicate with Division Leader when necessary
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Must be punctual and organized
  • HAVE FUN!
  • Attend all camps staff meetings
  • Genuinely care; engage and participate with campers
  • Maintain an atmosphere of mutual caring, respect, and understanding
  • Know where campers are at all time
  • Follow Aviator Sports and Camp objectives, rules, policies and guidelines
  • Facilitate and/or Co-Facilitate structured and unstructured activities
  • Help to maintain and secure all equipment and supplies of the program

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, actively engaged and patient
  • Minimum qualification requires candidate to be graduating 12th grade
  • Ability to work as a team member with other counselors and adult staff members
  • Prior experience in a youth related program is desired
  • Possess a desire to work directly with children/campers
  • Safety is priority

Physical requirements: Able to conduct recreational activities with youth equipment operation. To be able to participate in physical activities such as swimming, field sports, and physical team building activities. Relations with others: Able to work with children ages 4-15 years old and able to work well with other Counselors.
To be considered a successful candidate, you must have related experience in recreation, sports, youth programs and summer camps.
