Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:


The CAD/CAM Engineer creates 3D CAD models of parts and assemblies from sketches, drawings, and verbal descriptions from New Product Development Designers and Engineers, and Project/Product Managers. Contribute in engineering & design. Supports Tooling Shop, Rigging/Testing Shop, and Plant Engineering in the development of marine product. Relies on personal engineering aptitude, instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Performs within, and in conformance to, the company CATIA/ENOVIA product data management system. Develops CAD documentation compatible with tooling and manufacturing fabrication procedures. Operates geometric data acquisition devices, laser scanners, probes, etc., to reverse engineer, perform QC. Verify patterns, molds, and parts to design tolerances.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Meets product schedule deadlines.
  • Creates parametric surface models of new products and new product families in CATIA V5 GSD workbench that are adaptable to change as design evolves.
  • Adheres to company 3D modeling best practices.
  • Makes complete documentation of NPD designs using CATIA CAD and Enovia Product Data Management collaborative PLM software.
  • Learns, applies and verifies conformance to Federal, ABYC, and NMMA Standards compliance for marine manufacture as applicable throughout the product development cycle.
  • Operates geometric data acquisition devices, laser scanners, probes, etc. to reverse engineer, perform Q.C. Verify patterns, molds and parts to design tolerances.
  • Participates in design for manufacturability to achieve and improve best efficiency and quality.
  • Manages time effectively in order to support multiple projects concurrently.
  • Helps develop and introduce new product designs in a timely manner, collaborates with a team of tooling technicians, designers and engineers to troubleshoot problems, and ultimately produce a newly designed product.


EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Aero/Electrical Engineering Technology, Associate of Science in Design/Drafting Technology, or equivalent education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job will be considered.


Knowledge, Skills, And Ability


  • Strong understanding of CATIA Generative Shape Design (GSD) and Part Design
  • Must have strong time management skills
  • Self-motivated and a positive attitude.
  • An eye for aesthetics, and an ability to translate 2D sketches into 3D CAD surface models that accurately capture industrial design intent.
  • Knowledge and experience with 3 axis and 5 axis CNC operation and programming a plus.
  • Experience and knowledge of CATIA 3D CAD software a must, ENOVIA a plus.
  • Understanding of manufacturing requirements, and how they are applied to component designs.
  • Ability to work well with and influence established teams.
  • Good communication & collaboration abilities.
  • Excellent creative problem solving.
  • Capable of multi-tasking and managing multiple priorities.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT:


  • Develops objectives and general policies and procedures for a specific program or functional area of responsibility within general scope of established operational goals and plans. Day-to-day work and decisions do not require direction or review by immediate supervisor. End results are reviewed by supervisor.
