The Office of Financial Aid is seeking a Business Data Analyst to join its team! The Business Data Analyst performs data analysis, and assists in interpretation of results using a variety of techniques to support business practices. This role works with management to not only obtain and identify analytical requirements but also provide recommendations and conclusions gained from analyzing data using statistical methods and tools. The Business Data Analyst researches best practices, develops benchmarks, and provides dashboard metrics to the Financial Aid leadership team. Develops a variety of reporting tools for distribution. Ensures data accuracy. Provides input into decisions affecting business operations and strategic initiatives. May lead staff or student workers, as assigned. This position will be responsible for creating management reports, assisting with systems project management leaders, and producing data for national reports.
The Business Data Analyst provides the Dean of Financial Aid with data to assist with decision making, allowing managers to help keep up with operational needs. In addition, this role will work closely with the Office of Institutional Research. The Business Data Analyst produces data collection methods (e.g., surveys, tests, etc.), and develops tools and processes to support analyses. Analyzes results, reviews data for anomalies, investigates to identify and determine cause, and corrects data inaccuracies and inconsistencies as necessary. Provides recommendations and conclusions gained from analyzing data.
Provides business data trend information to support recommendations for action. Collaborates with management on matters of best practices, appropriate statistical measures and benchmarking. Provides management with suggestions, as appropriate.
Utilizes statistical and quality management principles to report and initiate operational/business practices changes. Develops schedules for statistical analyses and graphical representation of data for business analytics. Provides ad hoc reporting and statistical analyses, as requested. Oversees or performs data collection and/or entry processes. Recommends and/or utilizes methods and procedures for data acquisition, management and quality control, as directed or as needed. Recommends and/or utilizes statistical techniques for data analysis, as directed or as needed. Resolves problems, answers questions and provides information to facilitate process. Uses standard statistical analysis software, as directed. This position will report to the Associate Dean of Operations for Financial Aid.

The annual base salary range for this position is $ 78, 540.17 - $78, 540.24 . When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 1 year Minimum Field of Expertise: Proficient PC skills. Working knowledge of databases, spreadsheets, word processing and statistical software programs. Knowledge of business statistics and data analyses techniques. Ability to manage and analyze data. Strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills.

Maintains currency with technology, standards, and best practices. Supports process improvement efforts within the team and across ITS.
- Quantitatively and qualitatively analyzes large data sets to create actionable insights, establish a broad understanding, and build recommendations that result in an enhanced business value.
- Participates in user research to gain an understanding of customer and stakeholder pain points, challenges, and needs. Builds, designs, and delivers solutions that meet customer needs and expectations.
- Works to mitigate risk while owning tasks, resources, and changes. Supports the release management process by anticipating risks. Produces required project analysis documentation, such as business requirements, scope matrices, use cases, future state proposals, UAT plans, etc.
- Contributes to innovation and continuous improvement by leveraging the latest industry knowledge. Continually develops skills, knowledge, and abilities by maintaining currency on emerging technologies and approaches.
- Engages in human-centered design (HCD) processes and approaches to deliver a broad range of sustainable solutions. Engages in standard business analysis methodologies by outlining problems, opportunities, and solutions.
- Audits data for quality and accuracy. Maps data to key performance indicators and business requirements to demonstrate alignment to business objectives.
