Job Description


Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM) is looking for an experienced Business Analyst III to join our Business Consulting & Transformational Initiatives team within IT.


This team/department focuses on leading the delivery of IT solutions and transformational initiatives. The Business Analyst III will identify, capture, and communicate business needs and translate business requirements into technical system and functional specifications. This person will also serve as the ScrumMaster over one or more projects that cross multiple IT and business areas.


Additional Aspects/functions Of The Role May Include


Serve as a liaison between the business area and the IT organization to provide technical solutions required for the achievement of business goals. Support one or more highly complex business processes, requiring design or integration of technical solutions that may cross multiple function of the business.


  • Conduct data gathering and analysis to understand business strategy requirements. Lead and provide direction for short and long-term planning sessions and provide direction to ensure understanding of business goals and direction. Provide input from a business and IT perspective. Lead the assessment of client needs utilizing a structured requirements process (gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes) to prioritize immediate business needs and recommend options, risks and cost vs. benefits.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and draft proposals for evaluation by appropriate users and managers. Develop and assist in the presentation of businesses cases.
  • Review and approve test plans and monitors testing process to ensure that business results are adequately tested with minimal risk.
  • Monitor and analyze performance metrics to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Develop user test cases and system integration testing and validate test results during testing.
  • Coach and transfer knowledge to less experienced team members.
  • Analyze customer’s operations to understand their strengths and weaknesses to determine opportunities for improvements.

Education And/Or Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
  • Five (5) years of relevant technical or business work experience required.


Departmental Preferences/Requirements


  • Analysis and Problem-solving skills
  • Experience in facilitating Agile Ceremonies and performing the role of ScrumMaster
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Prior experience building relationships with business and IT resources
  • JIRA knowledge and experience preferred
  • Healthcare knowledge and experience nice to have
  • Ability to coordinate project dependencies across the enterprise
  • Ability to coordinate and gain business/IT agreements on project timelines and capabilities
  • Ability to work independently, or within a team environment
  • Prior experience in working with multiple vendor partners to implement integrated IT solutions
  • ScrumMaster certification nice to have
  • Experience in creating project deliverables (Requirements document, Requirements Traceability Matrix, etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Prior business analyst experience in gathering requirements
  • Strong communication skills to effectively align resources across projects
