Description:

Job Summary

The Building Service Engineer maintains, services, repairs, and inspects heating, ventilating, mechanical, and air conditioning systems, and the mechanical, plumbing, electrical and electronic systems associated with the decentralized utilities centers located throughout the campus and the Central Plant facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct a variety of electrical services and maintenance.
  • Maintenance, servicing, repair, and inspection of HVAC and mechanical systems
  • Emergency repairs to steam, natural gas, water, refrigerant, air and oil distribution systems.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems for central and decentralized building plants and of building temperature control systems including electric, electronic, and pneumatic controls.
  • Up-to-date facilities maintenance procedures, including all types of plumping systems, electric motor control systems including electric motor control operations and water treatment systems.
  • Excellent communication skills required to interface with the campus community to complete written work and to interact positively with co-workers and supervisor.
  • Professional image and demeanor important.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working in a university or institutional setting.
  • Maintains a safe environment.
  • Communicates with the University community in a civil manner.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a high school diploma and two years of journey-level experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of boiler, heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment and systems required. Four years of experience is preferred.

Physical Summary

Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent's time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.

  • A valid California driver's license is required.
  • Trade related higher education desirable, CFC certification.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $6,151 - $7,942 per month

Benefits
