Job Description
The Opportunity
The Broadcast Technician will assist & collaborate with the day-to-day technical operations and maintenance of the Grizzlies, FedExForum, and Grind City Media Broadcast facilities, including but not limited to the center-hung video board, video control rooms, LED boards in and outside FedExForum, concourse TVs, outdoor marquees, broadcast rooms and more. This position will also act as an event lead for engineering needs for all Grizzlies and Tiger games, FedExForum shows, and Grind City Media productions.
In This Role You Will
  • Lead Grizzlies & Tigers game day and event engineering duties, including Mobile Unit integration at FedExForum, HSAN feeds, and home & visitor broadcast feeds for television & radio;
  • Proactively troubleshoot the technical broadcast operations and needs of FedEx Forum facilities and function as lead to ensure all software, hardware, and other production equipment and support are up to date;
  • Work with Sr. Creative Lead & Archivist to assist with engineering needs, maintenance, and procurement of production and video storage systems, including but not limited to CATDV, Spectra Logic, Quantum, Premiere, cameras, lenses, and other broadcast equipment;
  • Maintain, groom, and organize live IT/Broadcast Media racks;
  • Lead and manage all transmission requests and technical needs for FedExForum;
  • Assist Broadcast Operations Manager and Archivist to ensure all primary recorded materials from Broadcasts (TV & Radio), In Arena, Remote, and digital productions are archived within the house media library system;
  • Partner with Sr. Manager Broadcast Operations & Production to liaison with NBA Broadcast Technical Ops to ensure FedExForum (Grizzlies) and Landers Center (Hustle) meet and operate to NBA standards;
  • Collaborate with the Event Operations team, Sr. Manager Broadcast Operations & Production, FedExForum Operations teams to ensure all broadcast needs are met for Grizzlies & Tigers games and FedExForum shows & events;
  • In cooperation with Broadcast engineer, lead and ensure all maintenance, reporting & upgrades for broadcast facilities are scheduled and conducted promptly, including but not limited to TV & Radio broadcasts, interview & storage rooms, control & engineering rooms, and patch bays throughout FedExForum;
  • Communicate equipment orders & upgrades by researching estimates, budget tracking, & invoice tracking. Actively explore potential innovative technologies & vendors within the industry;
  • Manage systems and relationships, troubleshoot, and develop creative presentations using Ross Dashboard, Ross Talk, NDI, and Xpression technology;
  • Assist Senior Director of Content & Broadcast Production with budgetary updates;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assist Broadcast Production Manager with all facility, technical, and production needs for the Memphis Hustle & University of Memphis Productions and other related duties as required.
  • Work with Sr. Manager, Broadcast Operations & Production to ensure any remote event broadcasts, set-up, production, live stream, or other needs are met and function as an on-site engineer;
The Experience You Will Bring
  • Ability to problem solve with a degree of independence, but also an open and complete communicator.
  • Strong understanding of file formats, video codecs, digital resolutions, & broadcast transmission systems.
  • Strong technical knowledge and background in multi-source presentation production for In-Arena and Broadcast environments.
  • Willingness to research and learn new types of digital technology.
  • Knowledge and experience in making and repairing BNC-SDI Cables with BNC, Triax Cables, and audio cables.
  • Demonstratable ability to pivot and manage to change priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Established and effective working relationships with various internal and external contacts.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Digital or Broadcast/TV production or equivalent work experience.
  • Working knowledge of broadcast computing and techniques for processing, storing, and using visual & audio data, including transferring & converting data.
  • Project-oriented and organized work approach, able to show a list of previously executed projects from concept to completion.
  • Vital planning and organization skills.
  • Ability to work mornings, evenings, holidays, and weekends as required.
  • Ability to multitask, meet strict deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Understanding and practical application of evolving broadcast and IT technologies and environments.
  • Minimum of four (4) years in an equivalent role/broadcast engineering capacity, including setting up live TV broadcasts, sports broadcasts, or live in-arena sporting events and production.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, and Adobe Creative programs.
Nice To Have
  • Knowledge of sports and entertainment, specifically NBA basketball.
  • Background and understanding of transcoding and distributing media.
