Job Description

Job Summary

Under general supervision from a Biostatistics leader, this position provides bio-statistical analyses and research deliverables that have intermediate and advanced complexity.

Responsibilities

1. Selects and applies basic, intermediate, and advanced statistical and/or epidemiological methods.

2. Prepares and manipulates standard datasets to enable the use of detailed queries.

3. Creates tabulations and other types of visual representation of data results.

4. Interprets intermediate and advanced analyses as part of the preparation of clear and concise reports.

5. Coordinates assigned staff (such as Biostatistician I, Statistical Research Assistant, Research Assistant, interns, or others) for the creation of reports involving intermediate and advanced complexity.

6. Creates automated processes, codes, and calculations.

7. Performs data validation and error checking procedures on intermediate and advanced complexity projects with minimum oversight.

8. Creates detailed specifications and documentation for analysis files, consistency checks, tables/figures, and project tracking.

9. Assesses the data needs and data gaps for programs/operations and recommends changes for enhancement or improvement.

10. Conducts primary or secondary research, as assigned and directed.

11. Conducts and/or directs data collection and analytical activities for surveillance projects, such as surveys, clinical projects, and other medical or public health initiatives. 12. Responds to data requests from internal staff, external organizations, and partners/stakeholders.

13. Collaborates with principal investigators, scientists, epidemiologists, and other Biostatisticians.

14. Communicates with clients regarding statistical analyses, methods, and related research questions when requested and directed by senior-level staff.

15. Authors scientific and/or technical writing material.

16. Prepares and delivers presentations on advanced research topics.

17. Lead and/or serve on working groups to address research topics or organizational needs.

18. Writes, updates, reviews, and provides feedback on business processes and standards documents.

19. Conducts training and support of junior-level staff, such as Biostatistician I, Statistical Research Assistants and interns.

20. Exhibits and promotes positive interpersonal (customer) relationships with fellow employees, physicians, patients, visitors, and clients.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

1. Strong analytical skills and ability to choose and utilize basic, intermediate, and advanced level statistical methods.

2. Advanced ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

3. Advanced ability to summarize detailed information in an organized, concise manner. 4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, while also working efficiently and independently.

5. Ability to maintain positive and informative communication with internal and external partners.

6. Strong organizational and time management skills.

7. Ability to be detail-oriented.

8. Ability to conduct project planning, support multiple projects, achieve goals, and meet deadlines, with minimal supervision.

Computers and Technology

1. Experience with SAS or R is required.

2. Experience with SQL is preferred, but not required.

3. Ability to conduct basic, intermediate, and advanced programming/coding in standard analytical software packages to create automated processes, macros, and other data output.

4. Strong understanding of standard syntax and logic.

5. Ability to review, troubleshoot, and debug the coding of other staff.

6. Considerable knowledge of data system design and planning, information technology systems, health informatics, and/or data visualization methods.

7. Microsoft Office (standard software suite)

Education and Experience

1. Master’s Degree and three years’ relevant experience required OR;

2. Bachelor’s degree and six years’ relevant experience required.

3. Required degree concentration: Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or other scientific, health, medical, or social sciences field with a concentration in Statistics.

4. Relevant experience is defined as: experience in biostatistics/statistics.

5. Doctoral degree in Biostatistics or Statistics preferred.
