Job Description
The mission of the Allen Institute is to unlock the complexities of bioscience and advance our knowledge to improve human health. The mission of the Allen Institute for Immunology is to advance the fundamental understanding of human immunology through the study of immune health and diseases where excessive or impaired immune responses drive pathological processes. The Institute will employ a multi-disciplinary team approach in collaboration with academic centers of human immunology to generate novel mechanistic insights into the immune synapse in health and in diseases such as autoimmunity or oncology. The Institute will simultaneously provide a foundational data set and tools for future immunological research as well as a novel collaboration portal for the broader scientific community.


The Allen Institute for Immunology is seeking a Bioinformatics Analyst I – Translational Research with experience in analyzing omics data for biological research to support our joint research projects with industry partners. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated team player who can work closely with immunologists and bioinformaticians, an excellent communicator who can translate data analysis plan into solid executable analysis code, a quick learner who can adapt new methodologies to achieve goals, and a tireless worker who can complete projects under time constraints.

Essential Functions


  • Meet analysis deadlines and be able to pivot between multiple projects
  • Generating high-quality figures and tables for presentations and publication
  • Analyze data from clinical trials, biomarker research, and/or target identification and prioritization under minimal supervision
  • Identify potential biomarkers and/or drug targets for disease of interest and perform network analysis
  • Use both standard and tailored methods to analyze clinical metadata and multi-modal omics data, including but not limited to: scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, CITE-seq, TEA-seq, flow cytometry, and proteomics
  • Assist scientists in data analysis and data presentations
  • Work closely with immunologists and bioinformaticians to explore omics data for hypothesis generation and testing

Required Education And Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics or closely related discipline


Preferred Education And Experience


  • Fluency in R and/or Python
  • Basic knowledge of molecular biology and wet-lab omics technologies
  • Hands on experience analyzing high throughput omics data
  • Ability to learn and implement new software tools and packages
  • Demonstrated experience in writing code for omics data analysis
  • Able to work independently as well as in a collaborative high paced environment under minimum supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills
  • Experience using Git or similar version control system
  • Experience in industry research, especially experience in analyzing data from clinical trials, biomarker research, and/or target identification and prioritization
  • Experience in generating high quality graphs for presentation and/or publication
  • Good problem-solving skills, curious and eager to learn new skills
  • MS in bioinformatics or closely related disciplines
  • Demonstrated success in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Self-motivated, a team player, attentive to details, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with cloud computing and/or linux


Work Environment


  • May enter laboratory environment, including potential exposure to lasers, biohazards
  • Open office seating


Physical Demands


  • Working at a computer and using a mouse for extended periods of time
  • Fine motor movements in fingers/hands to operate computers and other office equipment; lab equipment


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work


  • Occasional evening and weekend hours required
  • This role is currently able to work both remotely and onsite in a hybrid work environment. We are a Washington State employer, and the primary work location for all Allen Institute employees is 615 Westlake Ave N.; any remote work must be performed in Washington State.


Travel


  • Attendance and participation in national and international conferences may be required

Annualized Salary Range


  • Final salary depends on required education for the role, experience, and level of skills relevant to the role, along with work location, where applicable.
  • $70,097 - $98,135 *
