Job Description
Mandatory COVID-19 Guideline
As of March 15th, 2022, all onsite JSH employees must have received the necessary doses to complete the COVID-19 vaccine series (i.e., one dose of a single-dose vaccine or all doses of a multiple vaccine series) or have been granted a qualifying exemption, or are identified as having a temporary delay as recommended by the CDC. New hires also will be required to comply with this requirement before working onsite at any JSH facility.
Job Summary
Under the direction of the program director and nurse manager, evaluates, plans, and administers medically prescribed recreational therapy treatment to patients.
Essential Job Functions
  • Completes all required paperwork and procedures to ensure that documentation reflects care provided and outcomes achieved, as evidenced in clinical records.
  • Develops a plan of care to promote optimum function and safety, as documented in the clinical record.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Performs a comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and safety assessment, as evidenced by clinical documentation.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards.
  • Plans for and provides recreational therapy treatment on the unit, reassessing the patients’ status during their stay and ensuring quality of care as documented in the clinical records.
  • Maintains and enhances personal knowledge, as well as promoting professional standards in occupational therapy.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team inter- and intra- departmentally to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Coordinates patient care with other clinical team members ensuring optimal patient care and communication, as noted in the clinical record.
  • Follows the hospitals exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
Required Skills
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Physical or Recreational Education.
Required Licenses/Certifications
  • CPI certification (or equivalent).
  • BLS Certification - American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) or American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider) required, must be current.
