Departmental Overview
The Mission of the Department of Residential Life is to facilitate residential student transitions into the intellectual and social communities of the University of California, Berkeley, and to promote personal well-being and respect for the community needs of all residents. Responsibilities
Under the guidance of higher-level specialists resolves non-complex individual cases regarding student affairs or student life. May provide recommendations and suggestions for changes and/or development of new activities and services. Researches grant opportunities and oversees applications. Maintains relationships with internal and external organization stakeholders important to program success. Works with vendors to ensure proper reporting, communication, and accounting. Oversees logistical setup and inventory (including day-to-day operational logistics). Oversees staff/volunteers for Bear Pantry programming. Provides transactional advising and guidance to student leaders participating in student government, co-curricular programs, and/or organizations on non-sensitive issues. Facilitates student development in leadership, communication skills, project coordination, and in establishing goals. Provides basic support services for a student program. Backup support as a substitute for Bear Pantry staff. Works with outside agencies to refer students to work in public service roles; identifies resources for student volunteer opportunities. Oversees volunteer support for Bear Pantry programming. Serves as an advisor to a small student service operation (e.g., Bear Pantry) which may include training students and staff, preparing budgets, and performing fiscal analysis.
Required Qualifications
Basic knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Knowledge of and/or ability to learn common University-specific computer application programs. Knowledge of and/or ability to learn University processes and procedures. Understanding of and/or ability to learn University rules and regulations. Interpersonal skills. Skills in service orientation, active listening, and critical thinking. Abilities in problem identification, and reasoning. Ability to multi-task, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills.
Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $24.86 - $42.10.
This is a 12-month, 100% full-time (40 hours per week), contract position that is eligible for full UC benefits with the possibility of extension. This position is non-exempt and bi-weekly.
