The Automation Investigator will lead automation support for formulation screening activities in biologics drug product development. The individual will work collaboratively with the drug product, analytical and statistics leads to design and coordinate the execution of biologics formulation screening studies. The individual will review, analyze, and discuss results and conclusions both orally and in writing to stakeholders. The individual in this role will maintain accurate, complete laboratory records, and assist in preparation and review of SOPs and regulatory documentation, as appropriate. The individual will author and contribute to external scientific publications and presentations. In addition, the person in this role will support matrix activities to develop automated workflows for drug product formulation and process development. This will involve scoping requirements from drug product leads and lab scientists, and translating those requirements, with the help of the automation team, into automated workflows that perform consistently and reproducibly. The individual will lead training of scientists in the developed workflows and embedding them into drug product development. The individual will also participate in a matrix team and provide their expertise and knowledge to support crafting the long-term automation strategy, both for biologics and small molecule steriles, being developed within drug product development.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated familiarity with formulation and process development related to biologics drug product development
  • BS and minimum of 7 years or MS and minimum of 5 years or Ph.D. and 0-3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry

  • Familiarity with efficient data handling and management in a laboratory setting
  • A demonstrated record of laboratory experimentation, scientific accomplishment, publications and/or presentations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both as a team member and a technical lead
  • Deep understanding of formulation and process development related to biologics drug product development
  • Understands statistical principles and its use in experimentation
  • Knowledge of analytical techniques used for biologics formulation screening including low-volume high throughput assays
  • Familiarity with the development section of the CMC dossier for regulatory submissions
  • Well versed with the application of automation such as liquid handlers and modern laboratory equipment
  • Also familiar with sterile small molecule formulation development
