Job Description
What to Expect
As a Tesla Automation Controls Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the operational availability of a wide array of manufacturing equipment and computer networks. You will apply your technical skills to install, maintain and repair mechanical/electrical systems, factory automation and robotics equipment. A successful controls technician should perform coding using ignition scripting, python, and SQL queries to report data. You will work with the highest caliber controls and equipment engineering teams to improve equipment/network reliability while minimizing/eliminate downtime. Controls technicians will work with facilities/design team to perform any network drop for any new lines/devices. In addition, these technicians may wear a fall protection harness while working from heights or from a suspended position. Lastly, Controls Technicians will lift up to 50 lbs. and utilize other hand tools and power tools as needed.

What You’ll Do
  • Assign IP address to any new device + configure to local network/plant network
  • Utilize SCADA for display reporting for aluminum being pushed, frequency of lubrication, product quality, scrap and die flow
  • Log all info inside of the computer system and share with the receiving shift
  • Perform corrective maintenance by searching for error codes inside of the electrical panel for electrical systems ranging from 24 VDC to 480 VAC 3 phase
  • Troubleshooting/repairs within the network for any Fanuc Robots
  • Order parts, supplies and equipment from catalogues/suppliers or obtain them from storerooms
  • Operate and repair any production equipment during scheduled and unplanned downtime
  • Utilize SQL queries to access the data base and pull reports
  • Manage the thermodynamics of the equipment utilizing temperature control units (TCU) and thermal cameras
  • Perform other tasks as instructed by management
  • Program ignition scripting utilizing python programming language
  • Program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), such as Allen Bradley and Siemens, utilizing ladder logic and structured text
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) on all industrial production equipment such as lubrication of dies utilizing a Keyence flow meter to measure the appropriate amount of spray on each gun

What You’ll Bring
  • Verbal and written communication skills (able to understand and record maintenance procedures, shift pass downs, etc.)
  • Safety oriented
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of identity and employment eligibility will be required.
  • Advanced computer skills (able to use job-specific PC applications and coach other users)
  • Proficient with pneumatics-solenoid valves, actuator and control operations and can read schematics
  • Ability to work off-shifts, as needed
  • Must have command of the English language, both written and verbal
  • Proficient with basic hydraulic system operations
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed mechanical assembly drawings and accurately measure and inspect tolerances
  • Solid electrical knowledge (has a thorough understanding of electrical requirements and hazards)
  • Five (5) or more years of experience working in a controls technician/engineer role on production manufacturing equipment and/or have equivalent training or relevant education
  • Advanced skills with voltmeter to check AC/DC voltage, able to diagnose issues, able to use a schematic diagram to troubleshoot electrical systems
  • Ability to analyze problems and error conditions, identify root causes, and implement viable long-term solutions
