Job Description
MacArthur Recruitment is looking for an experienced engineering AutoCAD Project and Design Engineer to work for a successful design, fabrication and engineering company in Carlisle. This is due to an increase in orders.


You will manage the technical execution of specific contracts and projects from order receipt to installation, working with various internal and external stakeholders to budget, quality and time frames. The products are typically fabricated metal, mechanical structures that incorporate electrical controls and other elements. Summary of the role of AutoCAD Project and Design Engineer :


  • To manage technical execution of a portfolio of projects, working with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintain supporting documentation associated with submittals and document control.
  • Produce installation drawings and instruction packs
  • Produce accurate 2D (and some 3D) drawings for customer approval and manufacturing


Key responsibilities for the role of AutoCAD Project and Design Engineer :


  • Working to the project scope, schedule and commercials within your portfolio (typically 5-6 projects at a time across various time frames)
  • Visit construction sites as required to survey
  • Gain drawing approvals - review contract drawings for any potential anomalies - co-ordinate design with client
  • From clients engineering plans and drawings, produce a General Arrangement drawing, with appropriate connection interface details
  • Be innovative and committed to continuous improvement
  • Inspect finished products and ensure they are built to specification
  • Liaise with and issue installation instructions to installation teams
  • Other tasks as required such as product meetings, specific technical problems, assist with sales proposals, drawing updates, liaise with Production.
  • Become a fully integrated member of the team supporting our collective aims for company growth and development
  • Develop and apply personal skills that contribute to effective team-working and be an advocate of promoting quality and excellence in all dealings with customers
  • Produce and issue detailed fabrication drawings for production as well as machined components for sub-contract manufacture (as applicable)
  • Liaise with manufacturing and installation to ensure suitability


Education or qualifications for the role of AutoCAD Project and Design Engineer :


  • General working knowledge of the engineering industry and designing products into buildings.
  • Membership of an appropriate trade and/or professional association - desirable
  • Degree, HNC, HND, CEng, Meng, etc in an Engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation - desirable
  • AutoCAD2D
  • Autocad 3D, Solidworks, FEA experience - desirable.


Experience and skills required for the role of AutoCAD Project and Design Engineer :


  • Able to interpret engineering drawings designs and draught 'General Arrangement drawings’ for approval.
  • Practical aspects of installing designed equipment, of dealing with customers, internal and external stakeholder management, commercial awareness - desirable
  • Willingness to take on and embrace new challenges.
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders Engineering AutoCAD Technician / Draughtsperson in manufacturing
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across all levels of the organisation as well as externally, with decision makers locally and nationally.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to write (and communicate generally), clearly, logically, and succinctly and translate complex information for consumption by a variety of audiences.
  • Managing and delivering projects - schedule, commercials, budgets, quality, stakeholder management
