If candidate has pending licensure, must meet one of these exemptions:


  • Holds an American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) certification or equivalent
  • Holds a doctor of audiology degree (AuD) from an accredited institution of higher learning and has passed the examination required for licensure
  • Licensed in another state and who has made application to the board for a license in the state of Tennessee


For Clinical Fellows must be eligible to practice as a Speech Pathologist in the state of employment to obtain paid professional experience (Clinical Fellow) before being qualified for licensure.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Hearing assessment including otoacoustic emissions and evoked potentials.
  • Assessment of spatial orientation including ENG, posturography and behavioral assessment.
  • Educational audiology including assessment and management of auditory/language/hearing disabled
  • Knowledge of audiology methods and techniques in two or more of the following areas:
  • Intra-operative surgical monitoring.
  • Advanced differential diagnostic testing of otologic and neurologic patients.
  • Cochlear Implants including candidacy assessment and ongoing mapping services.
  • Hearing aid fitting and aural habitation.
  • Must demonstrate basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel, or equivalent software programs.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and maintain control of workflow.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials such as patient records.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with associates, physicians and other outside professionals.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Acts as an auditory consultant to identify hearing-impaired patients in the hospital and community. Facilitates community awareness of hearing impairment and management.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
  • Develops, implements, and measures effectiveness of individualized treatment programs for patients requiring aural rehabilitation.
  • Promotes professional practice of all members of the departmental care team.
  • Administers diagnostic tests to evaluate hearing and balance to establish a basis for patient treatment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Occasional travel within the Memphis area.
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
