Job Description
Reporting to the Assistant Production Manager, we are seeking a Audio Engineer who will provide a professional and safe performance environment to the Peabody Institute students, faculty, staff, patrons and guests. This is a casual/as-needed position; hours are flexible and include daytime and evenings and weekends as appropriate to the staffing needs of the department.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Leads audio set-ups, tune and troubleshoot audio system for concerts, masterclasses and recitals.
Troubleshoots complex audio systems to ensure all concerts run smoothly.
Works in close partnership with the Stage Manager and other members of the production team, conductors, artistic directors and students to provide audio support.
Operates Front of House Audio console including both digital and analogue mixers.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Experience with digital consoles.
Familiarity with large and small format PA set-up and design.
Professional demeanor, superior communication skills, comfort in high-pressure situations, adaptable, solutions-oriented problem solver.
Understanding of the principals of EQ, Compression as well as familiarity with a wide variety of microphones and microphone techniques.
Demonstrated organizational skills with proven ability to effectively prioritize workload.
Ability to work long hours and nontraditional shifts: evenings and weekends due to performance schedule.
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk, stand, climb for extended periods.
Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in production (theatrical or event)
Two to Three years of experience in production or related field.
Additional experience may substitute for required education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Three to Five years of technical theater and audio experience.
