GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a Pilot in Cheyenne, Wyoming. As a Pilot in Command, you will assist in the planning of aerial missions and be responsible for performing these missions while piloting a Cessna 208 Caravan (Photogrammetry aircraft). The aerial missions are used to collect aerial imagery used for reconnaissance, disaster assessment, slide monitoring, and stereo compilation of digital terrain models (DTM), planimetric mapping and ortho imagery for preliminary engineering surveys.

Cheyenne is a steadily growing community along the Front Range, but still true to the history of the Old West. The city offers nearby mountain biking, skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. Wyoming is one of only nine states with no state income tax.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
  • Performs pre-flight review of the planned mission to include making weather assessments and inspection of the aircraft to ensure a successful mission
  • Attends Cessna flight currency course in Wichita KS and abides by all FAA regulations to maintain currency to fly the aircraft when needed
  • Flies aircraft to maintenance sites for scheduled annual inspection or miscellaneous repairs to be conducted by Cessna certified repair shop
  • Serves as Pilot in Command of a Cessna 208 Caravan (Photogrammetry aircraft), for the collection of aerial imagery
  • Performs post-flight aircraft inspection and documentation
  • Coordinates with the WYDOT Aeronautics mechanic as needed to address maintenance issues

Qualifications


PREFERENCES:

6 Commercial Pilot License
Instrument Rating, 2000 hours of total flight time, 875 hours as Pilot in Command, 50 hours of actual or simulated Instrument Flying
Class II Flight Physical
Turbine Engine experience and Mountain Flying Experience

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of the aircraft abilities and limitations, Meteorology, Aerodynamics, mountainous terrain hazards and thorough understanding of Aviation Regulations and the Airman’s Information Manual
  • Planning, coordinating, and organizational skills using logic and good judgement
  • Knowledge of Precision flying skills
  • Ability to physically and mentally perform the mission tasks

Necessary Special Requirements


PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Some flights will occur in mountainous terrain conditions.
  • Photogrammetry missions are typically flown at low altitudes ranging from 7500 ft. AGL to as low as 1800 ft. AGL.
