There’s no better place to make an impact – here we are uniquely placed with the funding, the ambition and the bravery to make it happen.

Main Responsibilities

The Clinical Immuno-Oncology (IO) Discovery team within Early Oncology Discovery ICC department in Gaithersburg Maryland is seeking a highly motivated, lab-based Associate Scientist with a background in cancer and/or cancer immunobiology to be a part of the new Strategic Initiative for Predictive Models. The responsibilities of this position include developing and performing human tissue-based assays from cancer patients, to characterize biological mechanisms of action of novel biologics drugs and drug combinations under investigation in clinical trials for the treatment of cancer.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 0-3 years of experience
  • Great teammate who is well organized with strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with developing and testing IO agents and combinations in ex vivo 3D platforms.
  • Strong hands-on skills in cellular biology and tumor immunobiology, including processing of patient tumor biopsies, histology, multiplex IHC/IF, multi-color flow cytometry (FACS), ELISA, western blotting, luminescence assays, cell killing assays, high content imaging, and spatial biology profiling.
  • Strong cell biology experience in sterile cell culture techniques such as isolation and culture of primary cells in microfluidic devices.
  • Ability to make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results independently.
  • Proven ability to collaborate in matrixed team.
  • Preparation of precise technical summaries, protocols, quantitative analyses, and maintenance of appropriate documentation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with primary tissue samples and ascites from cancer patients; experience in patient-derived organotypic tumor systems.
  • Ability to independently design and execute research plans for one or more programs, and to review, analyze, and interpret experimental results
